Health and Physical Education Teacher
Full-Time, Faculty

The Health and Physical Education Teacher works collaboratively with teacher colleagues to provide an intellectually challenging, creative and differentiated educational program for learners. The Health and Physical Education Teacher is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate education, instruction and training to students in kindergarten through grade twelve.
Role:
- Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive health and physical education program for Lower, Middle and Upper School students
- Teach developmentally appropriate health education classes for elementary through upper school students
- Teach developmentally appropriate physical education classes for elementary through upper school students
- Oversee the social and emotional development of the students
- Coordinate key components of daily student life which may include class meetings, service and leadership opportunities, homeroom advisory, team coaching or student clubs
- Provide student centered, interdisciplinary and differentiated learning suitable for gifted students.
- Provide classroom management using Social Emotional Learning (SEL) techniques including Responsive Classroom.
- Utilize knowledge of a variety of instructional and assessment methods, integrated use of technology.
- Collaborate with other teachers in implementing a multicultural and culturally relevant curriculum
- Responsible for coordination and collaboration of sharing student learning and progress
- Maintain effective communication with other teachers, colleagues, and administration.
- Demonstrate consistent engagement in strong, respectful, and gracious interpersonal and professional communication.
- Model positive behaviors for students and colleagues that align with the school’s core values, emphasizing health, wellbeing, social and emotional skills.
- Collaborate with Lower, Middle and Upper School faculty on school-wide initiatives and support of education through varied activities
- Provide support to other teachers to meet the overall mission of The Roeper School.
Skills:
- Teaching experience providing classroom instruction for kindergarten through upper school students.
- Committed to supporting and collaborating with teachers to contribute and reach learning and classroom objectives.
- Demonstrated instructional and communication skills.
- Movement, yoga and dance education experience preferred
- Knowledge/experience with gifted learners preferred
- Athletic coaching experience
- Ability to form collaborative work relationships
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency work in order to perform responsibilities perform responsibilities in accordance with Roeper's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- A collegial approach and congenial temperament
Preparation
Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field and three to five years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
