SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, the Para- Class Five- Health Aide provides first-level, on-site Health Services. Health Aids will assist in creating an educational environment that is multicultural/gender and ability fair/developmentally appropriate, and is favorable to learning and growth and is based on a commitment that all children can learn.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides first aid and episodic care to students and staff, and responds to emergencies as needed.
- Under the direct guidance of the health care supervisor, administers medications and special treatments for students with chronic health issues; follows protocols, procedures, and written care plans.
- Screens students for a variety of health care and environmental issues; tracks and evaluates infection control problems and follows up with clients according to protocols.
- Interviews students, listens to health care concerns, discusses treatment options, and determines health services required to treat a range of healthcare issues.
- Conducts first stage screenings for all students in cooperation with the Health Related Services team and geographical cluster resources.
- Makes referrals to other members of the school health team.
- Provides information and assistance on health services issues for students and families of students.
- Verifies and monitors the health and safety of students and staff in the facilities.
- Maintains health records for staff and students and updates electronic files.
- Maintains inventory of first aid supplies and equipment.
- Tracks student attendance and record data on computer systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of District administrative procedures, policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of community resources, health agencies, and social service organizations in the community.
- Assessing, evaluating, planning, and implementing health care and health care services within the District.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, department heads, and officials.
- Computer skills of databases, reports, spreadsheets, documents, correspondence, and E-mail.
- State and Federal laws and regulatory issues governing public health, including rules and regulations of the Minnesota Department of health and other governing agencies.
- Public health and safety protocols and regional healthcare issues.
- Nutrition and health maintenance issues for children and young adults.
- Maintaining confidentiality and data privacy.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum of one (1) year public health experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Current CPR certification for the Healthcare Professional and current First Aid certification. Additional health and safety training may be required.
- Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate preferred.
