Job Duties

The Medical Director provides leadership and supervision to all clinicians in the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Medicine Section of General Internal Medicine to ensure delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care in the Harris Health System, the county's largest safety net system. The Medical Director is responsible for creating a culture of excellence in clinical care by driving patient and clinician satisfaction, promoting evidence-based practices, fostering engagement, and leading continuous performance improvement. The Medical Director will serve as an academic mentor to foster outstanding teaching, scholarship, and community engagement.


The Medical Director works collaboratively with the Chief of Staff ("COS") and the Assistant Chief of Staff ("ACOS")/Chief of Medicine to achieve the targeted outcomes of Harris Health improvement.

Minimum Qualifications


While many competencies, skills, and knowledge are critical to the success of the role, the following are examples of expected abilities:


  • Strong leadership skills and ability to gain the confidence of faculty, staff, leaders, colleagues, etc.
  • Comfort with the interpretation and use of complex and disparate data sources to drive decision-making.
  • Dedication to achieving high quality patient outcomes and experiences
  • Ability to identify areas of opportunity within an organization.
  • Comprehensive understanding of current health care trends and ability to utilize this knowledge for establishing targets within personal organization.


Required Qualifications:

  • Board certified
  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct patient care.
  • Experience with quality outcomes or managed care environment strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in medical group management and/or leadership such as participation in performance improvement projects, committee involvement, or experience in a community-based organization or large, integrated medical group/health system.
