Job Description
Winnetka Congregational Church, Winnetka, Illinois, seeks a guitarist to participate with music staff and volunteers in leading weekly Sunday morning worship services. The worship at WCC is in a blended style, which draws on classical and contemporary idioms every week. As part of every service, congregants enter into worship through choral anthems, contemporary worship songs, organ preludes and postludes, and a variety of new and old hymns. A guitarist is an essential part of the team which leads worship in every service.

The guitarist would accompany approximately two pieces per service, usually alongside a pianist, typically in the style of contemporary worship music. Occasionally, the guitarist would be invited to play special music in services or duets with other instruments. The guitarist may play in contemporary-rock, latin, or classical music styles, dependent on the skills of the individual.

The guitarist would be required every Sunday from 8:30am until the conclusion of service, approximately 11:00am. No mid-week rehearsal is required.

During the summer months, the guitarist serves as instrumentalist and sound technician.
Winnetka Congregational Church holds services outdoors from mid-June to early September, and during this period, the guitarist is responsible for setting and operating basic sound equipment. This could include microphones, an electric piano, guitars and amps, and speakers.
The ideal candidate has a working knowledge of sound equipment.

This is a year-round position.

Qualifications
The successful candidate should:

● Possess the ability to play skillfully on the guitar, and in multiple styles.
● Be passionate for Church music ministry and have a heart for service.
● Have experience playing with a choir, band, or other group setting, and be willing to collaborate with live-stream staff.
● Have a willingness to accompany worshippers of all ages, including children.
● Be a strong sight-reader, as there is no mid-week rehearsal for the guitarist.
● Possess their own instrument and amp.
● Have a working knowledge of basic sound equipment.
● Be able to set up and operate equipment including microphones, electric piano, their own guitar, and speakers (summer months only).

Schedule
The guitarist must be available on Sunday mornings between 8:30-11:00 am. No mid-week rehearsal is required.

Remuneration
$150 per week.

Location
All services take place at Winnetka Congregational Church, 725 Pine Street, Winnetka, IL.

Vacation
This position does not offer paid vacation, however the guitarist may take up to four (4) Sundays unpaid vacation per year. Vacation dates must be approved by the Director of Music, with a minimum of one month’s notice.

Sick Pay/Personal Days
The guitarist may take up to four Sundays of sick/personal pay per year.
