Grants Manager
Job Description:
The Grants Manager coordinates and performs pre- and post-award activities for departments, schools, and the institution. Pre-award activities include researching funding opportunities, preparation and submission of grant proposals including implementing an efficient grants management system. Post-award activities include assisting with compliance issues, ensuring that all reporting is submitted complete and on time; working with the Senior Accounting Manager to verify detailed reconciliation of assigned project budgets, determination of allocation and allowable charges, and adjusting and correcting assigned project budgets to meet project goals and federal
requirements. The Grants Manager reports directly to the Provost.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain accounts and appropriate permission levels in grant submission portals (i.e. grants.gov, research, gov., ERA Commons)
  • Point of contact for team members on grants issues as well as questions related to university guidelines.
  • Identify, write, and submit school and institutional level grant applications.
  • Provide guidance to the PI on the requirements of the IRB and research related regulations including proposal submission and award set-up.
  • Assist in the development of budgets and budget justifications which include proofing the budget for inconsistencies and ensuring accuracy and consistency between budgets and budget justification.
  • Stay current with processes and regulations for all major federal agencies (i.e. NSF, NIH, NEH)
  • Initiate and circulate internal routing forms for all grants
  • Track application deadlines to help PIs meet timelines
  • Submit applications on behalf of PI when appropriate.
  • Track reporting requirements on all awards and assist PIs in preparation of reports.
  • attends Grants Culture meetings and provides updates on the status of current grant applications
  • Maintain all grant related policies

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:
  • Master’s degree or higher with demonstrated experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in analyzing data and formulating conclusions.
  • Ability to learn changing technologies related to grants and contracts management.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of national compliance issues.
  • Understand asset management for funded projects as applied to MSMU policies and practices and be able to comply with MSMU requirements for managing Federal contracts.
  • Demonstrated command of grants and contracts systems.
