NURSE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Grad Nurse I/II, Grad Nurse Department | Hilo, Hawaii | 90% FTE Casual Hire, No Benefits

Fall Cohort: Applications accepted from May 1 – June 23, 2023. Please note: Application and Pre-Assessments must be completed no later than June 23, 2023.

This program is to provide entry level opportunities for new graduate nurses who are scheduled to sit for their NCLEX RN exam and obtain licensure. This training is directly affiliated with Hilo Medical Center’s Nurse Residency Program vision and will give the graduate nurse additional experience and exposure, thus increasing the confidence and knowledge base to successfully graduate from the Nurse Residency Program.

This position is under the direct supervision of a registered professional nurse. Graduate nurses will receive orientation and guidance on nursing policies and procedures and nursing care techniques; provide nursing care, treatment services and/or health education information as directed. The goal of this training is to learn the role of a nurse aide and how teamwork and effective communication with registered nurses is essential to provide safe patient care.

HOURLY PAY: Grad Nurse I: $35.24, SR-16, BU:79

Grad Nurse II: $36.97, SR-17, BU:79

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a bachelor’s degree is highly desirable, as we work toward Nursing Magnet status. Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript of diploma) should be submitted with the application to be given credit for education. A legible photocopy will be accepted. However, Hilo Medical Center reserves the right to request an official copy.

EXPERIENCE: None required.

SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a Master’s degree (Nursing) from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for all of the required experience. Submit copy of master’s degree with the application.

CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) must be obtained within one (1) month of employment. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certification with the application.

LICENSURE:

Grad Nurse I: None required

Grad Nurse II: Evidence of LPN licensure is required with application. Possession of Hawaii LPN nursing license required upon hire.

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays, based on hospital operations (services are provided 24/7).

MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
