Position Summary: The Company’s General Store Manager is responsible for the successful operation of the store. This includes achieving satisfactory sales and profits as set forth by a specific operating budget. The store manager also directly supervises sales workers in the grocery department. Other duties may include but are not limited to management functions, such as purchasing, budgeting, accounting, and personnel work, in addition to supervisory duties. This position is accountable for the profit and loss (P&L) for their store and must use their leadership and merchandising skills to manage product levels and make sound business decisions. In addition, this position is responsible for increasing customer confidence and loyalty by promoting and executing consistent operating conditions, providing fresh and appealing products, providing courteous, knowledgeable, and prompt service and a friendly atmosphere in the store. The General Store Manager is responsible for overseeing, training, scheduling, supervising, evaluating, and providing constructive discipline for employees when needed. This position works closely with district managers, maintenance, ownership, human resources, and other management staff to ensure store efficiency, availability of quality products, excellent customer service and high staff morale. All management and staff will work together to uphold the mission of the company.
Essential Functions:
- Provide customer service by greeting and assisting customers, and responding to customer inquiries and complaints.
- Monitor sales activities to ensure that customers receive satisfactory service and quality goods.
- Assign employees to specific duties.
- Direct and supervise employees engaged in sales, inventory-taking, reconciling cash receipts, or in performing services for customers.
- Inventory stock and reorder when inventory drops to a specified level.
- Keep records of purchases, sales, and requisitions.
- Enforce safety, health, and security rules.
- Examine products purchased for resale or received for storage to assess the condition of each product or item.
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, evaluate personnel performance, demote, promote and terminate store employees when necessary.
- Assure all employees know, understand and follow company policies and standards.
- Constantly measure performance, evaluate and take corrective action.
- Instruct staff on how to handle difficult and complicated sales.
- Assure productivity of employees through example and leadership.
- Achieve sales and profit objectives through example and leadership.
- Examine merchandise to ensure that it is correctly priced, displayed and that it functions as advertised.
- Achieve maximum productivity by planning, developing and maintaining work schedules, records of employees' work schedules, time cards and all other necessary records.
- Organize, calculate and accurately enter daily sales information and sent to the corporate office.
- Maintain constant up to date knowledge of local competition.
- Confer with company officials to develop methods and procedures to increase sales, expand markets, and promote business.
- Control store expenses
- Plan budgets and authorize payments and merchandise returns.
- Provide adequate supervision to reduce loss due to theft.
- Stay familiar with all memos.
- Maintain and preserve company property.
- Prevent overstocks and/or out of stocks through correct product ordering.
- Develop favorable customer image through cleanliness, attractiveness and employee conduct by providing necessary supervision.
- Review and monitor all scheduled shift hours.
- Abide by all city, county, state and federal regulations.
- Assist in all areas that need attention or assign a person the complete the task.
- Record all sales at the time of purchase.
- Accurately record all markups, markdowns, spoilage and store use of merchandise according to company policy.
- Verify all money from the previous day and calculate the daily deposit and sign off on office count.
- Maintain bad check log to ensure recovery of the money lost due to the returned checks.
- Prepare end of the week reports accurately, or insure that they are done by trained employees.
- Properly record all hours worked on the computer, time card report and sign the time ticket report verifying all hours worked.
- Total time ticket report accurately to insure employees are paid correctly.
- Verify and close out payroll.
- See that all new employees on each shift are trained.
- Maintain warning notices to reflect a continuous performance record of all employees.
- Advise supervisor of any personnel situations or policy violations having a negative effect on store operations.
- Check all equipment for proper working conditions.
- Responsible for controlling payroll within budget guidelines.
- Enforce correct vendor check-in procedures, within company guidelines and as instructed by supervisor.
- Keep safe locked at all times.
- Follow company policy by maintaining a low cash drawer and utilizing the safe, as instructed by supervisor.
- Responsible for opening and closing the store.
- Complete shift-checkout report at appropriate times as instructed by supervisor.
- Notify supervisor immediately if the bank deposit is not made on a daily basis.
- Share the responsibility for controlling the inventory in the store.
- Order and maintain merchandise to prevent out of stocks.
- Build and maintain displays that are sellable.
- Prepare and maintain perishable foods according to company standards and as instructed by supervisor.
- Maintain coolers, shelves and displays by keeping them full and fronted at all times.
- Properly clean and maintain store equipment.
- Perform other job related tasks as requested by the management staff.
- Observe management schedule by opening and closing the store on time.
- Other job related tasks as required.
Management Practices
- Actively participate in management and other planned meetings;

- Work with management team as appropriate to routinely evaluate and improve product mix and pricing of products;
- Work with General Store Manager to develop promotional programs for the store including a sales strategy that fits with the overall company goals;

Personnel Practices
- Supervise all store staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating;
- Actively address performance and personnel issues in a timely manner;
- Follow company policies in the spirit intended;
- Work with managers and team members to develop goals, standards and procedures;
- Establish and maintain a clear chain of accountability and responsibility among all store staff and organize a store communication system that encourages staff participation and mentoring;
- Ensure that staff evaluations are completed properly and on time;
- Organize and facilitate regular team meetings;
- Follow good documentation practices;
- Ensure that all staff in store receive appropriate orientation and training;
- Develop and maintain useful store training materials and provide follow up training to ensure that standards are met uniformly by all staff;
- Ensure appropriate safety training for all store staff;
- Work with store management to assess staffing needs and create staff schedules.
Purchasing Department
- Create purchase orders for products within the store based on inventory needs;
- Purchase products for store according to store buying policies;
- Maintain positive working relationship with suppliers;
- Evaluate suppliers and research new sources of supply as necessary;
- Negotiate as needed with suppliers for favorable prices and terms, quality and delivery.
- Ensure invoices are reviewed for pricing and discount accuracy; ensuring accurate separation of inventory categories and subcategories.
- Ensure compliance with all purchasing contracts.
- Communicate ordering times, deadlines and changes in usual delivery time to departments when vendor is shared.
Operations
- Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and serviced;
- Ensure that store display units, coolers, work areas, storage areas, sales floor and store entrance/exit are in clean and orderly condition;
- Ensure that PLUs and prices are maintained in the Scales and POS system;
- Ensure that proper signage, rotation, and merchandising occurs;
- Research new products;
- Ensure that products in store meet company product guidelines;
- Set pricing guidelines for store to meet margin goals;
- Ensure displays and signage are aesthetically appealing and accurate;
- Oversee all day to day operations of store;
- Establish daily work routines for store;
- Oversee and facilitate ordering and receiving of all grocery items and supplies;
- Create and maintain order guides as needed;
- Ensure routine maintenance and cleaning of all designated grocery equipment.
Other Duties
- Be able to explain membership system simply, efficiently and completely;
- Keep supervisor informed of any problems and/or ideas;
- Maintain a high level of product knowledge and communicate pertinent product information to team;
- Oversee and assist with implementing special order systems as needed;
- Create when necessary, amend and/or maintain all systems which enable the grocery store to function efficiently and profitably;
- Maintain staff schedule;
- Know and promote company principles and mission, vision, and values, and follows company work policies and procedures;
- Perform other tasks as needed and assume other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of management experience in a food/grocery or hospitality focused high end retail operation
- Demonstrated track record of workplace achievement in the selection, coaching, and development of employees.
- Proven ability to drive customer satisfaction, financial performance and employee satisfaction.
- Ability to work with performance metrics, product specifications, and management systems
- Proven experience managing a team within a multi-department operation
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of food and beverage
- Exceptional guest service skills in s high end environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Expertise in health, food safety & sanitation procedures

Pay: $70,000.00 - $79,000.00 per year
