The City of Kingman Fire Department is accepting applications from dedicated team oriented individuals to fill current vacancies and establish a hiring register for our Full-Time Firefighter positions. Hire in rate - $15.18 /hr. Stipend amounts for candidates with NREMT Paramedic and HazMat Technician.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

3) This position requires FireTEAM and a valid NTN CPAT through National Test Network (NTN). Only a CPAT (Candidate Physical Abilities Test) from an officially designated CPAT location will be accepted. All testing must be completed in order for application packet to be reviewed. WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Schedule your own convenient test time. Tests are offered multiple times a week, including Saturdays.
  • Take high quality job simulation tests in a standardized, fair testing environment.

Upon completion of the entry level exam and CPAT testing, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the Kingman Fire Department. Candidates who attain a passing score on both the entry level exam and the physical abilities test will be placed on the eligibility list to be provided by NTN.

Review of applications and NTN eligibility list will be reviewed by Kingman Fire Department throughout the fiscal year. Based on results of review, candidates may be invited to participate in other stages of department's selection process as needed to fill department vacancies or to establish a hiring register.

Duties will include protecting life and property through emergency incident intervention; performing fire suppression and fire prevention duties, and providing basic life support emergency medical care is given at a minimum of the Basic EMT Level in the pre-hospital setting to assist victims of illness or injury. Works in support of a 24/7 operational environment and is subject to call in/call back to support the operational needs of the department. Candidates should possess the abilities to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department members; apply principles, practices and methods of current fire fighting techniques; effectively learn how to operate and maintain assigned fire department equipment; meet such physical requirements as established by a competent medical authority.

Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Graduate from high school or GED;
  • Course work showing educational requirements meeting NFPA 1001.
  • Arizona State Certification as Emergency Medical Technician at the basic level or higher.
  • Arizona State Certification at the Firefighter Level I or equivalent.
  • Arizona State Certification at the Firefighter Level II or equivalent.
  • Arizona State Certification at the Hazardous Materials Awareness Level or equivalent.
  • Arizona State Certification at the Hazardous Materials Operations Level or equivalent
REQUIREMENTS
  • Possession of valid Arizona Driver's License;
  • Certification as an EMT at a minimum of Basic Level in the state of Arizona;
  • Arizona State Certification at the Firefighter II Level or equivalent;
  • Ability to read and write the English language.
  • May be required to be a Certified Emergency Paramedic.
  • May be required to be a Certified Hazardous Materials Technician.

  • Responds to fire, medical, hazardous materials, and technical rescue emergencies to perform essential functions.
  • Searches for and rescues occupants, ventilating structures, protects property by salvaging contents, and applies water and chemicals to fires.
  • Cleans and maintains assigned fire station on a regular schedule to include minor maintenance and repair of quarters and grounds.
  • Attends and participates in regular and special trainings and drills.
  • Performs fire prevention inspections and checks burn permit sites.
  • Performs station requests for blood pressure checks.
  • Completes all required records and reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Performs medical skills within scope of medical certification in accordance with current medical control protocols.
  • Cleans and maintains assigned apparatus and equipment; replaces medical supplies and equipment used during emergency response.
  • Lays and connects hose lines, directs water and pressure streams, use chemical extinguishers, raises and climbs ladders, ventilates buildings, rescues persons.
  • Operates all types of bars, hooks, lines, forcible entry tools, and other rescue equipment.
  • Performs first responder hazardous materials procedures.
  • Makes sound decisions and quickly reacts positively under stressful conditions which typically entail the life or well-being of a citizen or public safety member who is in danger.
  • Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions.
  • Works 48 hour, rotating shifts in support of a 24/7 emergency services department. Will be required to work early mornings, evenings, graveyards, weekends and holidays as necessitated to assigned shift rotation and schedule.
  • This position is subject to overtime and emergency recall during non-working hours due to staff shortage and/or operational needs.
  • Maintains professional and effective working relationships by providing exceptional customer service and must be able to harmoniously work in a team environment.
  • Participates in a physical fitness program to maintain physical conditioning.
  • Firefighters assigned as Certified Emergency Paramedics must perform these duties within the regulations and guidelines of the State of Arizona.
  • Firefighters assigned to the Hazardous Materials Team, as a Hazardous Materials Technician must meet the certification requirements and standards of the State of Arizona
  • Maintain regular attendance and recognize attendance as an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
  • Participates in shift meetings and special projects.
  • Assists in public education classes and station tours.
  • Acts in fire engineer's position on occasion, after proper training.
  • Performs other related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed in accordance with standard operating procedures and direction from the Company Officer either directly or through the assigned fire engineer. The Company Officer reviews work through performance reviews and conferences.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Occasionally when temporarily assigned as an engineer. Direction to career or part-time firefighters may occur at calls for service.
