Job Duties

Eastern State Hospital (ESH), located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with an emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state-of-the-art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

ESH invites applications for the position of PART-TIME FORENSIC EVALUATOR (Psychologist III) .

This position will provide a wide range of forensic assessments, to include Initial Evaluations of Competency to Stand Trial, Post-Restoration Evaluations of Competency to Stand Trial, and Mental State at the Time of the Offense. There are also opportunities for reports for Graduated Forensic Privileging as well as Annual Continuation of Confinement reports for those patients adjudicated Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI). Evaluations are assigned on a rotational basis with the expectation for prompt assessment and report completion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Psychology is required.
  • Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
  • Experience completing forensic evaluations is required.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Forensic training through the Institute of Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy (ILPPP) and registry as a certified forensic examiner in the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred.

This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency, pandemic, or facility need. All ESH positions may be required to work different shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays, and/or overtime as requested, in the event of an emergency.

This position is a hourly/wage and not eligible for benefits. Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than 29 hours a week and are limited to working 1500 hours in a year.
