Purchasing Manager
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Purchasing Manager directs, plans, and coordinates all procurement activities within Astec/JCI toward achieving stated production, quality and cost objectives. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Purchasing of all materials, equipment and supplies for the organization, major contracts and capital equipment. Assist in the qualification of prospective suppliers. Maintain supplier relations. Responsible for the development and control of department budget and manpower plans. Actively promotes employee involvement and continuous improvement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides effective leadership and direction to all employees in their work group.- Effectively communicates within work group and all areas of the company, both written and verbal.
- Ensure suppliers selected can provide materials with consistent quality, on time delivery and priced competitively.
- Accountable for the development and control of their specific expense and operating budgets.
- Interacts with all areas of the company to assist in developing strategies that enhance overall profitability, quality, and productivity.
- Responsible for employee hiring or disciplinary actions necessary.
- Ensures the fair, effective, and consistent administration of all company policies and programs within the department, i.e. wages, benefits, safety, performance coaching, and recognition.
- Meet all production schedules with high quality products that exceed internal and external customer expectations.
- Achieve annual company cost reduction/avoidance goals.
- Coordinate the work of the department with other production and staff departments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises other Buyers in the Purchasing Department
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor degree, preferably in Business Administration, Operations, or Purchasing. Or equivalent years of experience in purchasing for heavy industrial or steel manufacturing environments.
- Relevant education and supervisory experience in an industrial environment. Interpersonal and analytical skills a must. Demonstrates satisfactory skills at both written and verbal communication. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and changing priorities within an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation. Commitment to personal growth and development through continued education and training. Proven experience with MRP systems. Ability to read engineered drawings.
