Job Title: Production Supervisor
Department: Operations
REPORTS To: Production Manager

Summary

Seeking Production Supervisors that can be responsible for the leadership of assigned personnel, the quality and safety of food products produced, the safety of personnel, line efficiencies, schedule attainment, minimizing food and packaging waste, implementation of Lean Manufacturing, and the ongoing housekeeping of the facility. Actively engages in root cause analysis and continuous improvement exercises providing solutions to issues and how to optimize results. Makes daily contact with all assigned personnel to ensure any obstacles to success are understood and removed for the employee. Maximizes the use of personnel through ongoing training, coaching and regular daily feedback.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains the facility in a neat, safe and orderly fashion at all times using 5-S, shadow boards and scavenger hunt techniques. Complies with all Company and Plant policies and procedures including conformance to the facilities’ GMP program (Good Manufacturing Practices). Verifies that equipment is kept clean throughout the day and the facility is in Tour Ready Condition at all times.
  • Ensures all OSHA guidelines are followed and writes work orders on any unsafe conditions and reconciles with Maintenance immediately. Validates the use of the Plants’ lock-out/tag-out procedures, job rotation program, etc. as needed. Ensures that all personnel are properly trained on their job and written verification is obtained for HR files.
  • Verifies quality standards (oil %, salt %, PDQ, code dating, cartoning quality, weight control, etc.) are being met in the area assigned by ensuring employees complete quality tests and record results on forms provided. Visual inspections are made on an ongoing basis with corrective action as needed.
  • Accountable for FHFP, OEE/throughput, schedule attainment and raw material conversion costs.

Ensures work orders are written as needed and operators are maintaining their equipment in peak performance (including cleanliness). Makes daily contact with all employees to remove obstacles allowing them to perform their job at peak performance levels. Reduces food waste through elimination of floor waste, end of run waste, superior weight control and elimination of hold product. Schedules employees to standard levels or below while nearly eliminating the use of overtime.

  • Manages the required set-up and changeovers using checklists and tools. Develops, or had developed, one-point-lessons for every aspect of the work performed in their area. Change parts are to be maintained on Shadow Boards (if none exist, Supervisor is accountable for developing required boards) in designated area and free of tape or other foreign matter

(temporary fixes must be followed by immediate permanent repairs through the use of work orders). Verifies that all cartons/materials from previous run are cleared from the area to prevent mixing of cartons and packaging.

  • Ensures 100% schedule attainment to provide superior levels of customer satisfaction for on- time departure of products manufactured.
  • Develops, maintains and posts visual key performance indicators (KPI’s) to provide ongoing feedback regarding productivity, quality, safety and sanitation and housekeeping. Conducts daily “tailgate meetings” for employees covering prior days’ performance and current days’ requirements. Actively asks for employees’ opinions in an environment of continuous improvement.
  • All paperwork required is filled out including the recording of lot numbers of materials consumed, assigned quality checks, production quantities, etc. Reconciles with the Warehouse cases/pallets produced prior to submitting daily production reports. Maintains and corrects payroll for assigned employees daily ensuring limited OT only as absolutely necessary.
  • Supports various Corporate initiatives to include Lean Manufacturing amongst others.
  • Manages direct reports providing timely feedback on goals and objectives. Maintains and develops a motivated well-trained staff. Addressed both positive and negative performance and behaviors as needed using a consistent and progressive approach.
  • Provides well thought-out ideas to ongoing issues regarding food safety, quality, cost reduction, turnover, etc. and takes own actions for continuous improvement.

QUALIIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following list that follows is representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Degree in Industrial Engineering, Industrial

Management, Business or the like is highly preferred.

  • Ability to speak, read and write in English as a first or second language to properly follow quality standards, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and detailed operating manuals.
  • Adherence to safety, GMP, housekeeping, waste, and efficiency standards
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must have solid math skills with the ability to interpret results.
  • Sound mechanical aptitude to list to, and “see” issues causing quality or throughput/downtime issues and address prior to issues occurring.
  • Position must have a keen attention to detail, ensuring all quality standards are met at all time.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Able to plan, organize and schedule machinery and personnel to scheduled requirements
  • The stamina to keep pace with a brisk work environment understanding that each minute of downtime results in increased costs and lost business.
