Food Access Program Manager
Job Description
The Food Access Program Manager is responsible for operating and expanding Appalachian Sustainable Development’s (ASD’s) food access programming. The Food Access Program Manager will work directly with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer to design and deliver programming that builds food security in ASD’s core footprint of southwest VA and northeast TN.
Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate pick up from and/or delivery to food pantries in SWVA and NETN
- Assist with procurement of product from farmers and food businesses
- Provide support to the Agriculture Education Program Manager in the implementation of food box school distribution pilot and educational programming, including identifying and connecting to new community resources
- Develop, deploy, and manage tracking system for multiple food access grants to ensure clear reporting and program management
- Work with ASD’s Groundwork workforce development program to assemble boxes of produce, meat, and dairy products for distribution to those in need
- Foster and expand relationships with at least 25 food charities, including seeking out underserved communities for program expansion
- Work with school systems in SWVA and NETN to identify opportunities for including local food in menus, conducting school tastings, and promoting nutrition education in K-12
- Work with the Chief Operating Officer and Grant Accountant to oversee fund distribution and ensure maximum impacts from programming.
- Assist with raising funds to support food access programming
Skills & Experience Required:
- Demonstrated interest in local food, public health, education, and/or missions to eliminate hunger
- 3 years of community outreach experience
- Able to work independently and interdependently with other staff and community members
- Experience with social media
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products
- 2 years of project management experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
