The Work Unit
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) serves Coloradans by providing high-quality, cost-effective public health and environmental protection services that promote healthy people in healthy places. Staff members focus on evidence-based best practices in the public health and environmental fields and play a critical role in educating people in Colorado so they can make informed choices. In addition to maintaining and enhancing our core programs, the department continues to identify and respond to emerging issues affecting Colorado's public and environmental health.
The Prevention Services Division (PSD) works with public and private partners across Colorado to improve the health of all Coloradans. Division professionals develop, review, implement and evaluate public health interventions proven to promote healthy living, prevent chronic disease, protect against injury and ensure access to health care and opportunities for a healthy lifestyle. The Division is committed to the professional development, collaborative effort and sustained wellness of its workforce. The Position
This position will support the planning and completion of the Family Planning Program's annual conference and/or other training events. Activities will include:
- Plan and implement all stages of the event from approval to outreach and marketing to registration to day-of logistics to invoicing and payment.
- Act as the main contact for staff, registrants, event speakers, and event vendors.
- Provide technical support for meeting technology on and off-site.
- Draft the conference program including the schedule and session overview, breakout room information, and other event information.
- Develop a conference checklist including tasks, responsible party, due dates, and status.
- Prepare the Official Function Form and other paperwork and track the approval process.
- Attend meetings with CDPHE staff to discuss planning progress.
- Ensure agreements and timelines with event vendors are being followed.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned to assist with the event.
- Assist with other duties and projects that support the FPP Program and Health Services and Connections Branch as assigned.
,The candidate must meet one of the following or a combination of experience/education to meet the minimum qualifications:
Six (6) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position such as marketing, planning, administrative support, or a closely-related field.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Business, Communications, Public Relations, or a closely-related field
- Two (2) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position such as marketing, planning, administrative support, or a closely-related field.
A master's or doctorate degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Public Relations, or a closely-related field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Conditions of Employment:
Pursuant to CDPHE policy, a background check is required for all positions at CDPHE.
Preferred Qualifications and Essential Competencies:
The preferred experience, competencies, and abilities are highly desirable for this position and will be considered in selecting the successful candidate:
- Professional-level communication, interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Experience in event planning and coordination with a varying number of event attendees.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and responsibly, while developing and maintaining a functional relationship with the supervisor.
- Ability to record and accurately transcribe meeting minutes for staff and workgroup meetings.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and community.
