Extension Faculty - Area Extension Educator - 4-H

Position Summary:
The University of Idaho Extension, 4-H Youth Development, is seeking to hire a tenure track or tenured Assistant/Associate Professor to serve as an Area Extension Educator in the Northern District. The incumbent will provide program leadership, district-wide technical support, and state-wide leadership in 4-H Science, Healthy Living, or Citizenship. Facilitate training for volunteers and 4-H staff in 4-H Science, Healthy Living, and Citizenship, all of which will help youth make better decisions and become actively engaged citizens. In addition, the position will focus on expanding partnerships and bringing ancillary external resources to support the 4-H youth development program.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in child development, adult development, education, or area closely related to the position.
  • Experience with knowledge and application in subject matter fields of 4-H Science, Healthy Living, or Citizenship.
  • Experience of four or more years working with 4-H conducting 4-H programs, training 4-H volunteers, and providing leadership in 4-H.
  • Experience as a tenured faculty member or able to be tenured within first year after start date. (Please refer to UI Faculty & Staff Handbook for Tenure Guidelines and Requirements.
  • Experience conducting presentations, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with positive team communication skills; in-person, via technologies, and in groups.
  • Experience: coordinating, planning and implementing events, workshops, trainings, and programs; organizing and preparing information and materials, communicating with the public, stakeholders, both orally, in writing, and by telephone; working a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings; working with and around school age children.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in grant and budget management.
  • Networking experience with volunteer organizations and industry stakeholders.
  • Willingness to participate in team curriculum development and event management.
  • Experience developing; recommending and evaluating program procedures and changes; developing technical written materials such as policies, technical manuals or rules/regulations; providing technical program assistance to staff and volunteers; gathering, assembling, correlating, and analyzing facts; devising solutions to problems; writing concise reports, and developing and evaluating policies and procedures.



Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Physical ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 50 lbs.
  • Ability to withstand working in the outdoors when necessary.
  • Must possess valid drivers license.
  • Willingness to travel statewide as needed.
