The Opportunity
Black & Veatch is seeking an Internal Events Director who plays a key role in supporting company growth by leading the Internal Events function. Successful candidates will thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment creating and implementing successful event strategies. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Oversee the planning and execution of internal Black & Veatch events.
- Developing an overall internal events strategy for the Black & Veatch organization, in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Will ensure successful execution of internal events by overseeing and/or executing logistics in support of internal events.
- Intake new requests, coordinating with stakeholders to efficiently identify and agree on requirements, scope, schedule, deliverables, services, expectations, and budgets.
- Ensures necessary facilities, off-site venues, equipment, facilitators, vendors, and participants are arranged and scheduled.
- Prepares and distributes communications to event participants and stakeholders.
- Promotes events through a variety of media in coordination with stakeholders and the BV communications team. (SharePoint, Yammer, email, BV Connect, bulletin boards, newsletter, and so on.)
- Generate purchase requests and manage purchase orders (PO) and invoices; track PO/invoice progress and solve for issues.
- Assist participants and facilitators as needed on site during certain events.
- Manage to allotted event/program budgets.
- Develops a network of vendors and manages vendor relationships. Approves final selection of venues, catering, technology, and other event services.
- Resolves escalated issues
The Team
As part of BV Business Enablement, you will be part of the critical and forward-thinking group that enables our people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible by providing creative solutions. Functions in this group include CIO/Global Information Technology, Diode, ESH&S, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services.
Key Responsibilities

- Responsible for staffing, managing resources, performance management and career development
- Serves as a key business adviser to division or company management team
- Ensures first line supervisors and/or staff get results
- Typically monitors and has influence on budget of a limited scope
- Develops and supports interdepartmental relationships
- May establish metrics for teams
Branding
- Elevates Brand to set organization apart from competition
- Clearly defines and differentiates brand that is expressed throughout the business including all professionals and activities
- Ties brand to organization's reputation in the marketplace, and implements and guards in a manner that builds the organization, and protects against wrong doing
Communications
- Clearly articulates what differentiates the organization from the competition, and effectively communicates these differentiators in internal and external marketing efforts
- Identifies and leverages opinion leaders to proliferate the organization's position as a thought leader in the market place
Marketing
- Plans, directs and controls the activities of staff to maximize the efforts of an organizational unit
- Provides for the preparation and consolidation of forecasts which meet overall marketing and sales objectives of the company
- Develops methods to track effectiveness of implemented programs
- Monitors performance and cost effectiveness of outside vendors and freelance contractors
- Formulates and distributes strategies for corporate or a division through various internal channels
- Assists in new product / services development and launch
- Ensures marketing and communications support and guidance is provided during acquisition processes
- Supervises work of others
- Responsible for hiring, discipline, and may have pay administration of their subordinates
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong business acumen; demonstrates willingness to deeply understand the B&V business; understands the dynamics of projects and their impact on B&V success; has the ability to establish and manage external relationships; and the ability to represent B&V with external constituents. Also understands business on a global scale.
- Innovative and tech savvy; brings leading edge solutions and practices that evolves, advances and improves the internal events function to achieve excellent business outcomes and participant experiences
- Collaborative leadership orientation; must be able to build consensus.
- Strong communication skills; must also be able to effectively communicate with stakeholders. Has experience interfacing with and presenting to C-level executives.
- Works with a sense of urgency and strategic purpose. Daily impatience with an understanding of long-term progress.
- Demonstrates ‘Connective’ thinking with an understanding of how things work together and avoidance of unintended consequences of decisions.
- Strong organization and planning skills; has the ability to effectively manage more than one initiative simultaneously
- Creative problem solving skills; can spot a problem and develop solutions
- Adheres to the Company’s ASPiRE program and our Global Ethics and Compliance Program
- Experience coordinating, planning, hosting, and facilitating events in a business environment
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
- 10+ years progressive management experience in related areas
- Industry experience
