Introduction


The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forestry is recruiting to fill two Equipment Research & Development Technician vacancies. These positions are classified under Forestry Technician - Advanced.

These positions are stationed: Wautoma or Tomahawk.

Position Summary


This position provides preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and training on specialized forestry and fire equipment as assigned. This position provides technical, administrative, and paraprofessional fire control equipment support to forest fire equipment operators who operate specialized/complex forest fire control equipment including tractor/plows and engines and all equipment used in the prevention and suppression of wildland fire and forest management. This position must be a self-starter and be able to work independently.

Salary Information


Starting pay is $23.84/hour for this position ($50,585.60 annually). Pay on appointment for current or former state employees is based on the State Compensation Plan.

This position is in Pay Schedule / Range 06-14. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details


Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment. CDL Requirement:

**Please note that the successful applicant will be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within (6 months/one year) of employment. **Pre-employment drug testing and subsequent random drug testing are required for this position.

Qualifications


Please describe the below qualifications in your resume and letter of qualifications to be considered for this position:

Required qualifications for this posting includes experience found under "Fabrication" or the "Mechanics" section:

Fabrication, which could include any one of the following:

  • Work experience fabricating parts for automobiles or trucks (e.g., cutting or stamping out parts, and welding or assembling them together)
  • Work experience fabricating sheet metal (e.g., for HVAC purposes)
  • Work experience fabricating heavy iron (e.g., welding truck frames, structural steel, etc.)
  • Fabrication-related experience as a machinist, using mills, lathes or precision grinders

OR

Mechanics, which could include any one of the following:

  • Work experience as an auto mechanic diagnosing and repairing problems in automobiles or light trucks
  • Work experience as a small engine mechanic repairing and maintaining small engines
  • Work experience as a heavy truck mechanic, performing work on chassis, diesel engines, drive lines, or brakes
  • Work experience installing and repairing hydraulic pumps, motors, controls, or related pieces on motorized equipment
  • Work experience as a millwright or industrial mechanic repairing, installing, dismantling or reassembling machinery.

Best-qualified applicants will have the following preferred qualifications:

  • Work experience in two or more areas listed above
  • Work experience using blueprints or schematics to make, assemble, or finish products
