Job description

The City of Altoona, PA is seeking qualified Engineering professionals to join the Public Works Department Engineering team. Interested applicants should have a working knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices. An awareness of drafting and Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) software, surveying and/or construction inspection is preferred. The Engineering Technician I will perform a variety of technical duties including preparing and reviewing plans and bids, inspecting materials and workmanship of projects, researching and collecting data, and analyzing topographical details of sites. The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable at reading and interpreting civil engineering plans, maps and specifications with an ability to effectively and professionally communicate with contractors, governmental agency representatives, City officials, and the public.

Applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by two (2) years of related technical or college training in drafting, Computer Aided Design (CAD), engineering technology, civil engineering, environmental science, or closely related field; and/or two (2) years of related experience. A valid state drivers’ license is also required. Individuals selected for consideration will be required to successfully complete a written aptitude assessment as part of the screening process.
