Navistar's Steering Systems Engineering team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineering Manager role. This leadership position is within the Chassis Systems Engineering group.

Navistar's Steering Systems Engineering team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineering Manager role. This leadership position is within the Chassis Systems Engineering group.
Steering Systems Engineering within Navistar Chassis Design is accountable for all design development and system ownership of steering systems across all our commercial vehicles, including conventional powertrain and electric vehicles.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees and manages overall engineering functions
- Leading the processes, problem solving and implementing solutions to the most complex and high-risk engineering issues
- Provides leadership on a broad basis; influences technical and regulatory standard bodies and serves as a critical asset in influencing the engineering strategy of key stakeholders
- Challenged to tackle new problems and improve efficiency and productivity
- Manages professionals and leads coordination of the activities of a section/department with responsibility for results, including costs, timing, quality, methods, and staffing
- Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to allocate resources to meet multiple project milestones withing budget and on schedule
- Sets direction, deploys resources, and manages others to complete work
- Accountable for the performance and results of a team/group within own discipline/function
- Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
- Evaluates situations and data from multiple sources to effectively manage projects with diverse scope
- Regularly interacts with senior leadership
- Assists in the development of team’s technology roadmap and strategy
- Exercises full management authority, including performance reviews, pay decisions, recruitment, and other personnel actions
- Creates career development plans for direct reports
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- 2 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities
OR
- Master's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- 6 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- 2 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities
OR
- PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- 4 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- 2 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities
Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills:
- Expertise in truck and/or automotive design and development process
- Experience in design release process
- Experience in any 3D CAD Modeling software is a plus
- Experience designing steering systems on light/heavy commercial vehicles
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as metal forming, stamping, casting
- Experience in problem solving tools such as 8D, Six-sigma, Lean
- Proven track record of project management
- Excellent Oral and Written communication skills
- Experience with working on timing plans and budget planning
- Experience with formal presentations
- Leadership – coaching, developing others
- Creation and execution of DFMEAs, DRDs and DVPs
- MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project
