Job Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide engineering and technical support to the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) organization. This includes all engineering analysis, technology review, and development and computation of impact calculations, lost revenues and forecasting models.

This position interacts with all members of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy team as well as counterparts in Transmission & Distribution Planning, Load Research and with PSEGLI contractors and various trade allies. . The range of activities for this position may run from providing general engineering assistance to EERE team members regarding routine calculations to acting as department lead with other PSEGLI organizations on the development of Non-Wire Alternative approaches to traditional capital construction efforts. In the latter role, candidate is expected to become the subject matter expert (SME) and to be able to coach and lead others in this area.


Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not be limited to, the following:

  • Assess Loss of Load contingency analysis and developing potential solutions through the introduction of new Distributed Energy Resources (DER’s) into the affected grid areas.
  • Perform Engineering cost/benefit analysis
  • Research and develop penetration probabilities and associated per unit savings estimates for new DER resources.
  • Provide computational analysis for direct savings measures and synergistic impacts all efficiency and renewable programs
  • Develop forecasting models of program activity to support program management and budget control
  • Develop and analyzing alternative “Reforming the Energy Vision” solutions to planned Transmission and Distribution Capital projects
  • Determine and calculate appropriate Avoided Cost proxies for cost effectiveness analyses
  • Maintain cognizance of new and developing technologies across all program sectors and analyzing the cost effectiveness of all measures proposed as incentivized program technologies.
  • Support Department with:
o Excel and/or other mathematical software spreadsheets, algorithms and tools as may be necessary
o Liaison coordination with other operating departments on technical and engineering matters
o Evaluation and analysis of contractor proposals, analysis, design plans and assumptions.
  • This position must be a role model for creating and sustaining relationships built on trust, honesty, respect and accountability for multi-department teams.


Job Specific Qualifications

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Engineering and a minimum 2 years of experience in a capacity that allowed for direct experience with various residential and commercial electric equipment and associated electric consumption and/or savings.
  • Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills and have a demonstrated ability to work in both team and independent settings.
  • Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to build strong working relationships that are cultivated and maintained throughout the organization.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and deliver an informative and effective presentation.
  • Must be proficient in spreadsheet and database software,preferably MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access.
  • Must possess exceptional customer sensitivity and demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction.

Desired Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Advanced degree
  • Prior experience with electrical load flow analysis
  • Experience with electric utility distribution planning practices
  • Experience with Distributed Energy Resources (DER’s)
  • Proven capability in developing and implementing unique solution models
