• Database Services deliver commercial and open source database technologies for businesses within Citi. The PostgreSQL Engineer/DBA will test, deploy and support PostgreSQL distributions and security/operational tools to facilitate infrastructure and business applications. Security, high performance and new capabilities are key requirements for our most critical applications.

Responsibilities:

• Provide recommendations on database selection and alignment to common use cases
• Deliver functions and products more efficiently through a service delivery model
• Evaluate PostgreSQL distributions and tools
• Define strategies to optimize PostgreSQL operational management and reduce chronic issues
• Define migration strategy from on-premise to compatible public cloud services like Amazon Aurora
• Provide guidance to developers on application architecture and resource sizing based upon application workload
• Advise vendors on product enhancements and set expectations on vendor technical support
• Define standard build configuration for provisioning on physical, virtual or containerized environments
• Provide L3 support on product errors and issues
• Build relationships both internally (application teams, management, developers, security officers etc.) and with vendors
• Continuous process improvement
• Focus on providing customer solutions

Skills & Competencies

Around 10+ years of experience in several of the following areas:

• One or more PostgreSQL distributions – open source, EnterpriseDB, Fujitsu Enterprise PostgreSQL
• Experience with Amazon Aurora and other cloud database services that offer PostgreSQL-compatibility
• Linux operating system, especially Red Hat and LinuxOne
• OpenShift or other containerization frameworks
• Monitoring/Alerting and GUI/IDE tools, either vendor provided or 3rd-party
• Agile methodologies such as scrum and kanban using JIRA
• Experience in shell scripting and foundational product automation of PostgreSQL installation, patching and upgrade (e.g. Ansible, chef)
• Product certification including security assessment and solution documentation
• BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI or QlikView

• Possesses good verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates self-motivation and problem-solving skills
• Capable and willing to work independently as well as in cross-functional and cross-location teams
• Ability to provide presentations to Management and large audiences
• Capable of defining cost models and optimizing technology spend and licensing

Qualifications:

• Product testing and evaluation
• Database troubleshooting and performance tuning
• Database security capabilities such as authentication, encryption, auditing
• Database operational capabilities such as High Availability clustering, replication, monitoring, backup and recovery
• Define strategies to manage technology risk, TCO, single point of failure
• Regulatory policies such as ADQR, FFIEC Data protection

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or equivalent work experience
