- Monitor the operation of the plant and advise methods to improve the reliability of the plant power system.
- Design new control systems to improve the accuracy and reliability of process critical systems.
- Determine protective relay settings and coordination schemes.
- Recommend inventory levels for spare parts and audit the Stores Inventory for quality and correct materials.
- Coordinate with the contract electricians to ensure minimum production loss from avoidable equipment breakdowns.
- Coordinate preventative Maintenance activities and recommend plans of action based on the results.
- Troubleshoot all Variable Frequency Drive faults and direct repairs.
- Maintain and improve powered schemes for plant reliability and quality and efficiency of 13 substations and associated equipment.
- Stay abreast of and advise management on new equipment and theories as they become available for implementation.
- Create and implement electrical procedures based on field work, company rules, interactions with company experts, and incident investigations to promote the highest standard of safety and unit availability.
- Assist in budgeting of capital expenditures for Substation and Distribution equipment for projects and system improvements.
- Loss control responsibilities include: Understand, support, and comply with all plant policies, procedures, and applicable regulations; conduct applicable Loss Control Challenge activities including inspections and audits as assigned; complete assigned Loss Control action items; and complete regulatory and other required training.
- Availability responsibilities include: participate in daily Pillar 6 meetings/field tours, participate in any plant rituals and support availability issues of the plant as assigned, participate, manage, and organize monthly AITs, support creation of AIPs, participate in vulnerability studies.
Context and environment
This is an independent contributor position that reports to the Instrumentation & Electrical Superintendent in the Maintenance Department.
Candidate profile
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- A willingness to learn, to share knowledge, and to drive results
- 3+ years of experience or equivalent specialized training and experience
- Hands-on experience with power distribution and maintenance
- Knowledge of distribution systems, motors, and variable frequency drivers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills sufficient to convey electrical concepts to all levels of employees and management
