Description
SAIC is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team of professionals executing complex system integration efforts for the Navy and United States Marines Corps in Charleston, SC.
This work primarily entails design and development of advanced solutions for unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious. These solutions may include pneumatics, hydraulics, electro-mechanical devices, mechanical systems, electrical systems and other technical functional areas. A subset of the developed solutions will be comprised of electro-mechanical systems validated in a systems integration laboratory (SIL) and on operational demonstrator systems that will required embedded system design awareness.
Relevant work includes confirmation of in cable/harness routings and specification of the harnesses (connectors/termination, conductors, shielding, marinization, abrasion sleeves, etc.), test stand build-up, lab testing of components and subsystems, and control system software development. Design support will be assigned to the selected engineer to support development of the associated technical data package for production of the harnesses and cables. Work will be conducted in our North Charleston office space as well as our system integration lab located in Hanahan, SC.
Job Duties:
- Designs and develops electrical architecture for complex Naval systems, equipment and packages.
- Conducts feasibility studies and concepts validated through laboratory testing on new and modified designs.
- Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provides design information to drafting for packaging documentation. Reviews designs for compliance with applicable commercial and detailed technical standards. Responsible for design and release of assigned subsystems within a product lifecycle management tool. Manages bill of materials (BOM).
- Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Domain expertise will span pneumatic, hydraulic, structural, electrical, software/controls, and electro-mechanical functional areas.
- Develops technical solutions to complex problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. System designs will require emulation of shipboard systems through integration of special effects.
- Guides the successful completion of major programs. Represents organization as technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors and two (2) years or more experience.
- Direct electrical architecture experience in harness and cable development, control systems and embedded system design.
- Ability to read and develop vehicle level electrical schematics, interconnects, etc.
- Hands-on system design, build-up, and hardware/software troubleshooting experience.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Solidworks/ CREO/ Any 2D/3D experience.
Desired Skills:
- Candidates with Matlab / Simulink experience with embedded coder and/or experience with C/C++ and cross-compiling toolchains for embedded microprocessor systems are preferred.
- Experience with Controller Area Network (CAN) and various automotive digital communication standards is preferred, but not required.
