    • Maintain accurate records.
    • Perform tasks with patience, tact and good judgment within established guidelines.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
    • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    1. Work Year: Eleven-months
    2. Salary: Salary and fringe benefits to be established by the Board of Education.

    SUMMARY OF BASIC FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Working under the direction of the District English Learner Program Coordinator/Director, the English Learner (EL) Program Assistant will help to implement the EL program by helping to maintain student records; administering annual assessments; communicating with families and monitoring student progress; providing student support; and facilitating communications between families of English Learners. This individual understands and works effectively with people from different cultures and supports the across all buildings and programs.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the principal job elements.
    • Systematically maintain and update student records (EL Student Profiles) with all necessary documents.
    • Obtain available prior student transcripts, ACCESS scores and records
    • Identify and screen new students via WIDA Screener.
    • Assist EL Coordinator with the re-designation process between May 1 and September 30 and follow up with necessary paperwork and documentations.
    • Generate student transcripts and other reports when necessary.
    • Coordinate and work with district for annual ACCESS testing.
    • Work with district ACCESS team to administer annual ACCESS testing.
    • Test initial student sand provide Coordinator placement and scheduling recommendations.
    • New student intake procedures; greet family, work with Coordinator to test student, notify parents, fill out required forms, set up EL Student Profiles, etc., screener, placement, involvement in Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee, etc.
    • Build home to school relationship and communicate with parents to discuss students’ academic progress.
    • Family Outreach/School community facilitator; research and recommend community resources for families.
    • Contact/call parents for ACCESSW and other district events as necessary; Back to School night, other school events.
    • Arrange transportation and bus schedules for all district ELs; if needed.
    • Organize/set up translations/interpreter for Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee and other district events as necessary.
    • Arrange summer school opportunities and excursions/field trips.
    • Develop and maintain individual student academic profiles based on classroom observations, student/teacher conversations, ACCESS, etc.
    • Participate in Student Progress Review Team.
    • Ongoing and regular meetings with teachers and coordinators regarding students and support needs, including tutoring and content support.
    • Coordinate with SpEd department and requisite support personnel for dual identification.
    • Work with coordinator on referral for support services.
    • Articulate across programs to ensure compliance with state guidelines.
    • Monitor LEP students for 24 months from date of re-designation.
    • Help organize student recognition events.
    • Organize/setup classroom instructional support, including supplies and materials bot online and hard copy.
