POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a 10-month faculty position that will teach 18 credits in his/her discipline during the 9-month academic year as well as six additional workload release credits assigned for on-campus educational technology duties during that 9-month academic year. One month of release time during the summer months is provided for the educational technologist to assist with upgrading classroom technology, supporting faculty as needed during summer instruction, and offering and preparing faculty training to support the educational technology classroom environment.

The educational technology release duties include training faculty to use on-campus technology equipment and resources, and designing, implementing, and supporting classroom technology to maximize technology efficiency for teaching and learning. On-campus technology includes equipment, faculty, and associated services to the main (Leavenworth), Overland Park, and Prison Education locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Recommends best practices and procedures and effective use of educational technology in the classroom.
  • Assists faculty in enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational technology innovations into the curriculum.
  • Conducts faculty and staff training sessions in pedagogical and technological tools available.
  • Creates training materials to accommodate self-learners and provides resources for faculty.
  • Performs needs analysis of current systems, researching, making recommendations, and individually implementing new tools, projects, and modalities.
  • Serves as liaison between educational technology and the university’s information services department related to end-user support and troubleshooting.
  • Work with external vendors as needed regarding classroom technology and ongoing maintenance.
  • Provides input, in collaboration with the faculty educational technology committee and his/her supervisor, on classroom renovations and upgrades related to classroom technology.
  • Submits annual budget and capital expenditure requests to the Director of Learning Technologies.
  • Evaluates relevant emerging technologies that have potential value for teaching and learning.
  • Support distant campuses with educational technologies, which may result in flexible/varied hours, including some late afternoon/early evening hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Faculty position must hold applicable credentials to teach in his/her field (Master’s degree required). An emphasis or previous experience in Instructional or Educational Technology, Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience facilitating integration of technology in an educational environment.
  • Knowledge of the pedagogical field and best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Experience implementing, training, and supporting learning management systems is strongly preferred.
  • Higher education teaching experience preferred.
  • A strong intrinsic desire to learn new and emerging technologies that apply to education, including but not limited to adult and non-traditional student markets.
  • Ability to pick up and learn new systems quickly and efficiently and communicate findings to other members of the team.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities when dealing with troubleshooting a system or critically evaluating new software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to deliver technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills working in a student-centered environment.
  • Working knowledge of ADA and other compliance requirements related to educational technology tools and platforms.
  • Strong demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments and projects with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in the use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
