The UW Interdisciplinary Center for Exposures, Diseases, Genomics, and Environment (EDGE Center) is housed administratively in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences (DEOHS) within the School of Public Health. EDGE is seeking a part-time 50%FTE Center Scientist-Administrator to provide leadership regarding scientific, operational, and administrative functions, and contribute to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives aligned with the funded mission and aims. The EDGE Center has been funded for over 25 years and focuses on understanding and communicating human susceptibility to environmental health risks. Its membership spans across multiple UW Departments and Schools/Colleges. EDGE involves not only fundamental research but also engagement with local communities affected by environmental health concerns.
DEOHS has an outstanding opportunity for a Center Scientist-Administrator. The Center Scientist-Administrator is responsible, together with Center faculty leadership, for managing the successful development and implementation of scientific direction, strategies, procedures, and operations of the Center. The Research Manager works under limited supervision and must demonstrate the ability to work independently while also interacting and working closely with all groups within the Center including faculty, staff, research teams, and teams fostering community engagement in research. Good project management and communication skills are essential. This position reports to the EDGE Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MINIUMUM REQURIEMENTS:
Master’s degree in public health, environmental health, or related field AND three years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in an academic, non-profit, or related research institution.
ADDITIONAL REQUIRMENTS:
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESRIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced recognized credentials such as Diplomat of American Board of Toxicology (DABT); Graduate education or other advanced training with a focus on public health, environmental health, toxicology, or related field with five years of experience managing complex project operations. Experience with research or public policy related to environmental health or public health. Familiar with the complexities of community-engaged research. Experience with management of a federally sponsored research center in an academic setting. Experience with UW systems including Financial Desktop, Cost Share, procurement, SAGE, Grant Tracker.
