JOB SUMMARY

The District Medical Director will report to the Chief Medical Officer and will be responsible for the high quality clinical and overall performance of the district through a dyad relationship with the District Director of Operations. This key leadership position, in partnership with their dyad, will be responsible for building and leading their district to help achieve the CMD vision to accelerate a healthcare future that is more effective and economically sustainable for everyone. The key functions of the District Medical Director will include the following, which are subject to change over time and at the discretion of the Chief Medical Officer.


The Eastern New Hampshire and Northern MA District includes Londonderry, Windham, North Andover, Plaistow, Newburyport, Exeter, Portsmouth and Dover clinic locations.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

District Performance

  • Full accountability with dyad partner for district performance.
  • Rigorous review of regional KPIs with dyad partner and development of action plans to optimize the district’s clinical outcomes performance and profitability.
  • Monthly structured reporting on state of business with dyad partner to Leadership Team (TBD).


Team Leadership

  • Accountability for all providers in the district through dotted line reporting in partnership with PMs/dyad.
  • Maintain open communication and availability for any escalation of clinical questions from providers.
  • Work with the PM/dyad to oversee and review provider scheduling appropriateness.
  • Utilize leading indicators of staffing to direct the Talent Acquisition team in the appropriate recruitment of highly qualified candidates.
  • Play active role in the recruiting process and through full talent lifecycle for providers.
  • In partnership with the PM/dyad, build a strong culture amongst the teams fostering a high level of retention.
  • Identify and develop future clinical leaders through personal development plans.
  • Maintain highly visible presence in all centers in the district to support the clinical team and to identify and address the challenges they face.
  • Utilize provider metrics to identify individual opportunities, develop, and execute improvement plans.
  • Participate in 30/60/90/Annual provider performance reviews with additional reviews as needed.
  • Identify training required by providers and coordinate training with provider education team.
  • Work with dyad/PM and providers to resolve patient complaints and perform service recovery.
  • Identifies better ways of working, demonstrating courage and resourcefulness to achieve the best outcomes for patients, the team and the organization.

Clinical Quality Assurance

  • Complete chart audits of clinic providers per chart audit policy and compliance regulations. As per state regulations, District Medical Director Responsibility for provider chart audits may vary in ME/MA/NH.
  • Develop and execute action plans based on chart reviews and other clinical metrics.
  • In collaboration with the Provider Education Team, facilitate 1:1 and group provider training when needed.
  • Supervise and direct all medical treatment activities and recommend changes to better utilize facilities, services and staff
  • Review external lab work requests from providers to ensure compliance with company policy.
  • Develop, implement and revise policies, procedures and protocols affecting medical practice and quality of care in coordination with the compliance officer and appropriate stakeholders.
  • Monitoring & follow-up of provider licensing/credentialing in coordination with Medical Staff Office and Provider Education Team.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge on regulations and manage supervising physician coverage for PAs/NPs
  • Vetting off formulary requests with dyad through a structure process
  • Strong understanding of WC/OH to support these services
  • Administrative role in clinical supply ordering through various 3rd party vendors.

Regional Medical Director will oversee/supervise the CLIA Certificate of Waiver and delegate API for waived testing (in MA only) to Practice Managers.


Engagement/Communication/External partnerships

  • Have regular communication with and be available to all providers in your region.
  • Ensure staff are up to date on changes in clinical, employee and business practices, policies and updates.
  • Shared weekend on-call schedule with all District Medical Directors.
  • Routine presence in clinics in designated region. Anticipate administrative time will be spent in clinics.
  • Review in formulary and off-formulary requests for district and build business cases for additional expenses
  • Routine communication/meetings with CMO, operations and training teams.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for CMD to build and maintain relationships with greater medical community through partnerships.
  • School nurse prescriptions/CNE/outreach.


REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate will be a mission driven clinical leader who is passionate about high quality value-based care and has a desire to gain further understanding of the business to drive performance. He/She will align with CMD’s mission, vision and values and be a catalyst to bring these to life.

The ideal candidate for District Medical Director MUST be/have:

  • A licensed medical provider (MD/DO/PA/NP) with at least 3 years of Urgent Care experience
  • Experience treating patients of all ages
  • Physician candidates are required to have graduated from an accredited medical school and Board certification in family practice, emergency medicine, or another ABMS recognized specialty.
  • State and federal licensure requirements.
  • Certifications: BLS, DOT
  • A Lead Provider with full or part-time employment status; home clinic must be one of clinics covered. (Internal)
  • Proficient in effective communication skills, with experience in high-stakes crucial conversations
  • Proficiency in medical documentation and evidence-based standards of medical practice
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Be viewed by his/her team as a strong, fair and compassionate leader; someone who listens, collaborates and creates opportunities for mentorship and career advancement
  • The ability to foster an atmosphere of respect, trust, and aligned commitment to organizational goals
  • The ability to support and partner with senior management, physician leadership, and peers to drive excellence and meet key goals.
  • Competent with common PC applications including Microsoft Office, PowerBI, Excel, Microsoft Teams

The ideal candidate for District Medical Director is STRONGLY PREFERRED to have:

  • Proficiency in software platforms such as Excel, PowerBI, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, DocuTAP and When to Work
  • Understanding of medical coding and billing
  • Strong understanding of Value-based care concepts
  • Familiarity with HR policies and protocols
  • Experience reviewing and developing clinic policies and procedures
  • Experience in progressive counseling and/or disciplinary action
  • Strong understanding of outcome-based process (KPI/OKR); measuring goals and outcomes for performance.

KPIs to measure success:

  • Shared dyad KPI include but are not limited to: District performance KPIs: BvA, Open positions, provider recruiting, NPS, eNPS, D2D, Volume
  • Clinical KPI include but are not limited to: ED referral rate, Documentation average, Chart review completion rate

Travel:

  • With-in district as appropriate to drive results

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

Compensation/Clinical Duties

  • The Medical Director position will be a full-time salaried position with bonus potential based on district and company performance goals.
  • Medical Directors will complete a minimum of 3 shifts/month
