Blounts&Moore, holder of 6 social equity cannabis dispensary licenses in Illinois, is hiring for the General Manager to run their very first dispensary to open in Oswego, IL!

The General Manager embodies an entrepreneurial persona with a business owner’s mentality in the approach to leading their assigned retail store and teams. The General Manager is responsible for leading all departments within their retail store in the common goal of ensuring exceptional customer experiences while maintaining a high morale and positive team culture. The General Manager is responsible for the oversight of all departments and operations within their retail store, including customer service and sales, merchandising and product management, cash and inventory management, security, safety, and compliance, as well as all respective training and development. The General Manager supervises all activities in the dispensary, ensures regulatory compliance and promotes best practices in the use of cannabis while never losing sight of achieving outlined KPI’s to ensure the success of the retail business.

Key Functions

● In addition to all responsibilities outlined below, and in order to promote a global mindset and to lead by example, the General Manager is responsible for all the same key functions of all direct reports, including, but may not be limited to that of: the assistant general manager, supervisors, customer service staff, inventory personnel, and security staff.

● Is committed to creating and maintaining a fun and productive work environment by valuing, recognizing, and promoting honesty, integrity, and direct communication.

● Actively coordinates team building and cultural development initiatives.

● Inspires and motivates teams by leading by example, creating a positive atmosphere, encouraging a customer first philosophy, and promoting a global mindset.

● Ensures the consistent delivery of exceptional customer experience through regular training, coaching, motivation, and positive reinforcement.

● Regularly monitors P&L and creatively strategizes and encourages the achievement of outlined KPI’s including but not limited to sales, customer service, inventory levels, payroll, overall profit, etc.

● Accountable for contributing to the store’s profitability by achieving outlined KPIs including but not limited to: sales objectives, payroll budgets, supply orders, discount management, cost of goods, etc.

● Assumes personal responsibility for the overall experience and standards in the retail store including, but not limited to, effective merchandising, adequate coverage, customer service excellence, cleanliness and tidiness, organization, and efficiency.

● Coaches in the moment and provides regular individualized attention to all staff members.

● Remains highly in tune with performance level of all staff, composes and enacts growth and performance improvement plans, hosting regular performance reviews.

● Responsible for interviewing, hiring, on-boarding, training, and management of dispensary staff, in accordance with company policies, procedures, and standards.

● Assumes personal responsibility for the growth and development of staff members.

● Ensures all dispensary staff members remain up to date on mandatory training and registrations, in compliance with both Company policies as well as State and local law.

● Conducts regular meetings with assigned employees to assess goals, objectives, and task performance, identify developmental opportunities, and ensures consistency and streamlined operations.

● Remains consistent and fair in holding all team members accountable for job descriptions, goals, and policies.

● Utilizes reward and recognition to encourage high levels of performance.

● Addresses HR matters swiftly and gracefully with discretion.

● Oversees and documents employee performance, progressive disciplinary actions, and terminations in partnership with HR.

● Promotes effective communication among all teams and departments and through proper channels and appropriate chain of command; ensures leadership, both superior and subordinate, is all kept informed on relevant matters.

● Implements operational procedures in compliance with applicable regulations; ensures legislative and procedural changes relevant to State and local laws are swiftly and effectively communicated and trained to dispensary staff.

● Ensures training of customer care staff ensuring thorough knowledge of usage methods, products, and strains. Partners with merchandising and product team(s) to coordinate staff education of new products prior to launch.

● Maintains and translates to staff knowledge on all aspects of the cannabis industry to ensure customers are benefitting from the most up to date and effective cannabis practices.

● Assumes responsibilities in customer marketing initiatives, including social media management. Partners with Retail and Marketing teams to ensure consumers are effectively communicated to and initiatives are tailored to local markets and demographics.

● Continually identifies and communicates improvements to business and operations to appropriate channels and actively participates in strategizing and implementing improvement plans.

● Responsible for accurate and efficient inventory tracking.

● Ensures SOP adherence to promote reporting consistency, mitigate loss, and to remain compliant with State and local laws and regulations.

● Oversees inventory staff to ensures adequate stock level, proper product assortment, and consistent replenishment.

● Supports inventory and merchandising staff(s) with vendor relations to strategize promotional partnerships, deliver product feedback, and plan product education.

● Ensures cash in store is regularly counted, cross-checked, balanced, and reported.

● Ensures streamlined cash tracking procedures that mitigated loss.

● Oversees prompt investigations of variances in cash and/or inventory, with proper communication, documentation, and rehabilitation in accordance with State and local law.

● Holds team accountable for consistent and accurate cash handling practices.

● Responsible for consistent adherence to optimal safety and security.

● Partners with security team to proactively recognize risk and develop action plans to mitigate.

● Ensures all team members act in accordance with all safety, security, and compliance measures.

● Responsible for diligent and streamlined operations and that all needs are met for effective operations which includes, but is not limited to, effective scheduling, staff communication, supply ordering, regular training reinforcement, education, team-building, etc.

Essential Skills

● Committed to “Why” communication, especially in proposing, implementing, and enforcing strategy and process.

● Strong skills in data development and analysis, including P&L management, with the ability to train others.

● Proven record of success in people management and developing strong teams.

● Ability to adapt to various learning styles in training and utilizing inspirational leadership.

● Savvy in POS, Business Intelligence, Bookkeeping, and Microsoft Suite software.

● Must learn compliance and regulatory demands pertaining to cannabis.

● Ability to assume a strong passion for cannabis knowledge and education, as it pertains to products and the industry as a whole.

● Ability to understand policies and procedures and follow appropriately.

Qualifications and Experience

● Bachelor’s Degree or greater preferred.

● 5+ years experience managing customer-facing teams in a high volume, fast-paced setting, preferably in retail or hospitality. Experience in regulated cannabis or other highly regulated industry is desirable.

● Background checks and certifications required according to State and local law.
