Position Summary
The Director will be responsible for the safety, execution, compliance commitments and witness responsibilities for the MAT code of GAA (pole test & treat) and GAD (pole reinforcement) programs. The Director will lead a group of experienced operations team members which include Sr. Managers, Supervisors, and individual contributors and well as contract co-workers. The role will lead a group of co-workers, establish strategic alignment within System Inspections and within MID and ensure compliance to our internal and external commitments.
PG&E’s electric distribution/transmission system includes approximately 2.6 million wood poles located throughout Northern and Central California, of which approximately 650,000 are in High Fire Threat Districts (HFTDs). The key objectives of the Pole Assessment and Replacement Programs are to cost effectively maintain the safety and reliability of PG&E’s wood pole assets by: (1) intrusively inspecting wood poles on a regular cycle for early detection of deterioration; (2) extending the service lives of wood poles through reapplication of preservatives and/or restoration of structural strength through reinforcement; (3) identifying and replacing wood poles that are nearing the end of their service lives; (4) identifying poles that are damaged; (5) identifying poles that are overloaded; (6) billing joint owners for their share of pole asset management costs.
The Director will be responsible to lead and continually monitor with the co-worker group internal and external factors that affect the planning, forecasting and successful execution of the program work and with continuous improvement project and capabilities. The leader ensuring work is completed and verifies that activities are compliant with applicable regulations, tariffs, standards, and work procedures. The Director will foster a safe work culture and environment, ensuring that employees adhere to all company and regulatory safety policies, practices, and requirements.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $170,000
Bay Area Maximum: $290,000
Reporting Relationship
Reporting into the Vice President, System Inspections, the Director’s team will include business leads and subject matter experts, for planning, forecasting and executing as well as a network of external partners including Contract vendors. The Director of Pole Test & Treat supports the VP and the cross-functional team plan, forecast and maintain compliance commitments to Wildfire safety and regulatory commitments.
Job Responsibilities
Provides overall leadership, strategy, and guidance for Pole Test & Treat / Pole Reinforcement programs. Ensures and leads, oversees planning, regulatory compliance, governance, resource planning and communications. Develops strategies, plans, and processes for the allocations of approved program funds or work/projects to support the Pole Test & Treat / Pole Reinforcement programs. Ensures that programs are managed in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, filings, tariffs and follow established guiding principles/best practices. Establishes overall strategy for performance measures and oversees the development, production and presentation of comprehensive program management and resource & work planning. Presents regular program and work plan status updates to senior leadership. Collaborates with Asset Management, Standard, and Contract Execution to develop short- and long-term work plans and strategies for the distribution/transmission wood pole system. Reviews, considers, and approves adjustments to plans to address funding or work changes. Responsible for centralized Contract Execution team to ensure effective coordination and guidance is providing to System Inspections workstreams, including., Distribution, Transmission/Substation and Pole Test & Treat. Partners with subordinate leaders to identify and prioritize process improvement initiatives. Ensures process and procedure development, implementation, communications, and training for new programs and/or changes to existing programs. Coaches staff to identify gaps in work methods, procedures, processes or training and partners with stakeholders to recommend solutions. Handles escalated program issues, including dealing with external vendors and/or communities to resolve problems and ensure excellent customer satisfaction.
Monitors compliance with Company and California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulations, construction standards, and requirements. Develops policies and relevant governance, processes, infrastructure, documentation, and tools to support the program. Ensures all required regulatory reporting is completed on time. Participates as a lead member of the Incident Command structure during times of significant events, such as storms, earthquakes, etc. Leads and influences department staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and coaching, and rewards and recognition. Drive operating model and process changes necessary to deliver intended benefits. Responsible for Lean Model adherence, DOR’s, WOR’s and MOR’s. Conveys strong leadership in communications, interpersonal relationships, and influencing/collaborating with various levels of employees and leaders.

Background Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience 10 years of relevant experience in areas such as: electric construction, maintenance, service planning, compliance, financial planning, or quality control/assurance. 5 years leadership or team lead experience.
Desired: Master’s degree in relevant filed, Journeyman Lineman and or Qualified Electrical Worker Certification
Desired Knowledge/Skills: Extensive knowledge of electric utility business operations practices such as maintenance & construction, estimating, design and planning. Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements or tariffs for assigned program work. High level influence and negotiation ability to obtain resolution on significant issues with all levels of leadership, including executive and external contacts. Analytical, creative, innovative problem solving and strategic decision-making ability. Strong business and financial acumen to manage large budgets and effectively lead a large department. Knowledge of process improvement concepts, methods and best practices. Responsible for Lean Model adherence, DOR’s, WOR’s and MOR’s.
