Job Description

Position Overview:
This position, Director, PMO and Program Management Excellence, will lead and manage the Program Management Organization (PMO). It is responsible for the successful launch of all new products into the marketplace, ensuring all KPIs are met. They will be a focal point for relevant projects, project related processes, practices and tools. This role leads a team of Program Managers, manages related work and staff to ensure tactical and strategic objectives are met. The Director, PMO and Program Management Excellence is a pivotal leader across all functions (Operations, Operations Engineering, R&D, procurement, Commercial and Supply Chain) and is responsible for the entire program, from the conceptual phase through to the successful implementation in the plants.
In addition, the Director, PMO and Program Management Excellence spearheads efforts for creating and maintaining processes to ensure consistent predictable project performance and works to ensure the adoption of those processes and the use of the information they provide. The Director, PMO and Program Management Excellence aligns PMO processes to support the needs of the Business Units.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Lead and manage Program Management Team to improve current processes and develop new PMO processes for the development and launching of new products.
  • Build a strong relationship with Executive Management to garner support in implementing necessary change in workflow process, project pipeline tracking, and business structure
  • Reporting to executive management on the status and obstacles of Program Management Projects
  • Responsible for, and critically focused on, the development of team members and the sustainable creation of a high performing team.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining an overall budget of about $1.7 Million dollars.

  • Responsible for administrative Project Coordination and organizing / maintaining project files and databases, assist with monitoring project budgets, meetings presentations.
  • Work with the Operations Regional Directors, Plant Managers, and Plant staff, along with Corporate Engineering, Sales, Quality, Operations, Eng., Supply Chain and Finance staff to develop feasibility studies and mutually agreeable implementation plans meeting customer cost and timing criteria
  • Communicate and resolve technical, timing, and budgetary issues related to projects as they arise
  • Build a common set of practices, principles, tools, and templates for managing projects to aid project managers in moving more easily between different projects and to help facilitate and accelerate the project management process.
  • Create project management templates to standardize components that can be reused instead of recreated for each project.
  • Track the status of projects based on updates from project managers using a project dashboard which provides a clear way to keep track of the status of projects.
  • Develop the “PMO Center of Excellence for Project Management” to provide guidance and coaching to project managers who need to understand how the organization runs Capital Projects.
  • Manage and facilitate the portfolio management process by processing project requests and ensuring each request has sufficient information to assess the project.
  • Keep an up-to-date repository of projects underway and requests pending review.
  • Determine what databases and software are needed to manage projects and PMO processes.
  • Collaborate with team members in IT to build databases and IT tools to projects and PMO processes
  • Participate in the Business Develop Review, Request for Quote Process (BDR / RFQ)
  • Manage team member deliverables to ensure comprehensive analysis of RFQs and timely submission of BOMs and other essential project work.
  • Manages team of direct reports and is responsible for employee selection, development, mentoring, and performance management. Responsible for overall talent management and employee engagement; cultivates an environment of safety, high performance, and ethical and legal compliance; addresses employee relations issues
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business, MBA preferred
  • 10 years of experience within the plastics industry either in a Project Management, Plant Engineering or Operations Management position with experience managing multiple complex projects concurrently with budgets in excess of $5 million.
  • Minimum of 7 years professional engineering experience preferably within the plastics packaging industry including seven years of project management experience related to new equipment installations.
  • Knowledge of customers, products, plant operations, equipment, technology and end users a plus
  • Proven experience managing multiple resources and complex projects
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills required to communicate technical, operational and financial information to complete project assignments
  • Strong management, communication, and people skills to influence and manage multiple resources, most of which do not report to the program manager
  • Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated Continuous Improvements (CI) Process experience with Cross-Functional Teams.
