Position Summary

The Director of Parking & Transportation Services manages parking & transportation services. This includes interpretation and oversight of policy, regulations, and law to guide operations and maximize revenue while reducing cost. This position is responsible for the overall management of all Parking & Transportation Services providing leadership, expertise, and management of special events, enforcement, sustainable transportation, infrastructure maintenance coordination with Project Management and Facilities Services, and all other administrative, fiscal, and operational departmental functions. The incumbent is expected to lead the University vision, planning, and implementation of transportation and parking strategy, drawing on their experience and expertise in these areas, to support the University's strategic goals and high standards of service, accessibility, and sustainability for the main campus and Mission Valley. The incumbent is expected to have a working knowledge of sustainability as it relates to vehicles, EV charging, and transportation programs. The incumbent is expected to provide professional development opportunities for employees as well as incorporating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training and leadership. Additionally, this position is expected to serve on the President’s Sustainability Advisory Committee (member), the Special Events Scheduling Meeting (member), the Alternative Transportation Committee (co-chair), and the Parking & Transportation Committee (Chair).

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, at-will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Parking & Transportation Services (PATS) is a department within the division of Public Safety and Community Empowerment in Business and Financial Affairs. PATS employs 17 professional staff, and supported by student assistants. PATS parking officers are responsible for the enforcement of parking rules and regulations on campus, in addition to providing parking and traffic support for numerous events occurring on campus. Our parking officers provide enforcement through foot patrol and license plate recognition software. PATS office staff provide information and services to our campus community for permits, citation appeals, defensive driving and overall support for our parking management database used by our community for managing their parking accounts.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of five years parking and transportation management experience in an administrator role


Key Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of how to navigate parking database systems (T2 Systems preferred) and License Plate Recognition software (Genetec)
  • Membership with the California Mobility & Parking Association (CMPA) is preferred


Licenses/Certifications

  • Must have a valid California driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire
  • Must have completed Hearing Examiner Training (HET) or the ability to complete the training through California Mobility & Parking Association within 6 months of hire
  • Certified Administrator of Public Parking (CAPP) certification through the International Parking & Mobility Institute (IPMI) is preferred
  • Traffic Demand Management Certification (TDM-CP) through the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) is preferred


Compensation and Benefits

San Diego State University will offer a competitive salary based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. San Diego State University also offers a rich benefits package that includes:
