Job Summary


The TRIO Student Support Services Student Service Specialist position reports directly to the Program Manager and is responsible for assisting with the coordination and implementation of support services for all program participants in the classic and STEM TRIO SSS Programs. Services include workshops on a variety of college success topics as well as activities related to

cultural enrichment, leadership development and personal growth. Works with a diverse population of administrators, faculty, staff, students and the public. These programs are fully funded by the US Education Department with funding scheduled to end on 8/31/2025.

Essential Functions


45% - Provides assistance with university transfer processes; works closely with participants interested in securing scholarships; contacts and makes referrals to campus resources and community agencies as needed; provides financial aid advisement and referrals

25% - Assists and/or leads in the planning and implementation of grant programming including: workshops, on/off - campus events and in/out of state trips etc.;

15% - Collects data on program participants, program effectiveness and prepares data reports

12% - Advises new, continuing and prospective students on grant program admission and program requirements and a variety of general college information; assist in the recruitment of prospective program participants

3% - Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one full-time equivalent year of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and three full-time equivalent years of full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

Desired Qualifications


A. Experience with TRIO or similar outreach programs that are governed by federal and/or state regulations related to grants

B. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in social sciences, education or related field

C. Experience working with at-risk student populations and familiar with the challenges encountered by first-generation, low-income college students and/or students with disabilities

D. Experience with computer software such as Microsoft Office suite, internet platforms, student information systems, learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard)

Special Working Conditions


Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D drivers license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements

May be required to work at various Mesa Community College locations

May require numerous evenings or weekends

May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen

May be required to lift or carry up to 10 lbs

Additional Requirements


If you are hired into a short-term benefits eligible position, once your assignment ends, you are ineligible for rehire into a part-time non-benefits eligible position (including Adjunct positions) or to continue working in a part-time non-benefits eligible position for a period of six months at the Maricopa Community Colleges.
