Summary Description of Classification: To have knowledge and assist in overseeing the Bibb County School District's Maintenance Department, Custodial Department and Grounds Department. To have knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to the construction, repair and safety of facilities; knowledge of heating, ventilating and air condition systems, knowledge of principles and techniques of supervision and training; ability to analyze and make accurate estimates of costs in each department; ability to plan and organize departmental procedures providing information and serving as a resource to department Administrator (s) and staff, by assisting in planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines, codes and regulations; and supervising and directing assigned staff. The ability to work cooperatively with others.
Qualification Standards
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance;
2. Examine school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance;
3. Establish and recommends priorities on repair projects;
4. Estimate cost and repair projects in terms of labor, material and overhead;
5. Assigns and supervises crews of crafts people for maintenance work such as repairing worn or
defective wiring, switches, faucets, plumbing fixtures, fencing, asphalt, concrete, ceilings, etc;
6. Layout and inspect work and assist crew members;
7. Develop a system for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency;
8. Prepare reports on cost of work done, materials used, labor expended;
9. Order materials as needed and make recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
10. Assign work orders, check drawings and plans;
11. Collaborate with building principals regarding the establishment of regular preventive maintenance
Programs;
12. Maintain such personnel and other records as are required;
13. Recruit, screen, recommend for hiring and training all craftsman necessary to the maintenance
program;
14. Advise on hiring of contractors to perform or repair services.
15. Coordinates and supervises the work of maintenance, grounds maintenance personnel, energy program
personnel, and custodial personnel.
16. Ensures compliance with building code and safety requirements.
17. Supervises, revises and review and evaluates work of Maintenance Supervisor, Grounds Supervisor,
and other department subordinate personnel.
18. Interview contractors to receive and analyze bids, including blueprint analysis of proposed changes,
submit bids and recommendations to the administration, basing recommendations on economy and
feasibility of bids;
19. Advises on structural changes and additions or modifications to buildings;
20. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some post-secondary education is desired.
3. Five (5) years of experience in the field of maintenance is required. Some supervisory experience is
desired.
4. Experience in personal computer operation is desired.
5. Current and valid Georgia commercial driver’s license is required.
Certificate and License Requirements:
Physical Demands: Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

- 239 contract days
- Salary: Per Year – Director III Scale
