The Director of Learning Accessibility Services is responsible for overseeing academic accommodations and support for Carthage College students with disabilities. This position also includes working with prospective students and their parents, partnering with faculty and several campus departments to provide support for students, and faculty development around disability issues.
Responsibilities:
- Meet with prospective students and their parents to discuss accommodations and support services for Carthage students with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Collect and review confidential educational, psychological and medical documentation to determine appropriate academic accommodations.
- Meet regularly with students regarding their accommodations and support services.
- Work closely with Student Success Advisors to assist students with the transition to college, selecting appropriate academic majors/classes and overall support.
- Coordinate student access to audio/electronic textbooks, assistive technology, note-taking support and other accommodations.
- Consult with faculty on issues related to meeting the needs of students with disabilities in their classes.
- Participate in and contribute to faculty development sessions on disability-related topics such as learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.
- Oversee exam-proctoring services for students with disabilities.
- Assist students in obtaining accommodations for graduate school entrance exams, teacher education certification exams, etc.
- Partner with the Director of Residence Life, Counseling Services, Office of Student Life, Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Writing and Tutoring Centers, and Library and Information Services to address student needs and develop policies and procedures for serving Carthage students with disabilities.
- Coordinate accommodations and support for students with temporary disabilities.
- Serve on committees related to policies, procedures, and program development related to the scope of the position. For example, the committee that responds to special housing requests and requests for service and emotional support animals.
- Share resources and information with faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians about student accessibility support, resources, and accommodations.
- Build relationships and connect students to appropriate community resources, including working to intentionally bridge access to psychiatric testing services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Master's degree in higher education disability services, counseling, social work or related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Prefer 2 years of experience in the area of student disability services in higher education settings.
