Job Title: Director of Intensive Support Program
Location: 401 Rutgers Avenue, Swarthmore PA 19081
Schedule: Full-time - Exempt
Position Description: This is a full time position working the school year plus ESY program. Position is responsible for supervising the daily operations of GCMS Intensive Support Program in coordination with the Director of Student Services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides supervision to the teachers and para-educators, including frequent observations and provides quantitative and qualitative feedback on performance, on-the-floor consultation, and formal evaluations.
- Works in conjunction with Assistant Education Directors to provide cohesive program implementation and communication across the entire department.
- Coaches and monitors staff in the Verbal Behavior and Applied Behavior Analysis protocols and programming.
- Trains and monitors implementation of evidence-based instruction and evaluation procedures that meet the full range of special education services and supports.
- Supports daily operations of all Intensive Support Classrooms.
- Chairs Individualized Education Plans (IEP) meetings, including compliance with all PDE regulatory requirements.
- Meets with staff, parents, and students as necessary to support the IEP team in the delivery of excellent service for the purpose of reevaluation, IEP, transition planning, behavior intervention plans.
- Assists teachers, in conjunction with students and their families, in identifying appropriate educational program/planning of special education.
- Monitors and provides quality assurance to IEP teams on IEP development.
- Works with related service staff as relevant for student placement and individual needs (i.e., transportation, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, specials teachers etc.) Works with data systems including collecting, analyzing, and verifying student information for federal, state, and local reporting.
- Drafts, reviews, and finalizes reports, correspondences and memoranda as required.
- Communicates with parents and districts/LEA's regarding student concerns, IEP's, etc.
- Administration and coordination of state standardized testing (PASA).
- Data Reporting and analyzation of behavioral and progress monitoring data to inform programming decisions for students.
- Performs other duties as requested/assigned by direct supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree with a major in Special Education.
- MSW or equivalent.
- Five (5) or more years of successful experience teaching special education w/ Level II certification.
- BCBA or autism certification preferred, but not required.
- Supervisory Certification Preferred, but not required.
- Two or more years' experience in Verbal Behavior and Applied Behavior Analysis.
- Current PA State Police, Child Abuse and FBI background clearances.
- Valid driver’s license and 3-year adequate driving record; maintain adequate vehicle liability insurance.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Sound knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws governing special education.
- Proven knowledge of student characteristics with respect to special education.
- Proven knowledge of school, community, and post-school services that may be available to specific populations of individuals with exceptional needs and the procedures and requirements for referring students for such services.
- Proven knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and implementation of a TIC philosophy.
- Proven knowledge of formal and informal assessment approaches that will guide viable planning documents (e.g., behavior intervention plans, [EPs, etc.) and demonstrate ability to transfer that skill to colleague teachers and staff.
- Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with various business technologies, such as Word and Excel, and a proven ability to learn and effectively utilize position-specific technologies.
- Proven ability to work independently without constant direct supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills evidencing the ability to effectively interact with a wide range of constituents with a focus on solving conflict without blame and managing difficult or emotional parent/community situations judiciously.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders by evidencing cooperation, congeniality, and a dedication to quality service.
- Strong understanding, appreciation of, and commitment to confidentiality.
