The Opportunity
Michelin North America has an immediate opening for a Director of Federal Government Affairs. The role reports directly to the Vice President of Public Affairs and has frequent interactions with our Executive Leadership Team and President/CEO.
This position is based in the Washington DC area.
What You’ll Do
As the Director of Federal Government Affairs you will promote and defend the interests of the Michelin Group by engaging with public decision-makers at the Federal level, as well as civil society, including NGOs, and industry trade associations in all the areas where we are present. The Director impacts all aspects of business, environment, public aid and subsidies, finance and taxation, international trade, industry, technical regulations, sustainable development, governance, and road safety.
Your main objectives will be:
  • Identify future developments at the national level of public decision-makers and relay these developments to internal teams to formulate strategic decision making.
  • Drive the development and implementation of corporate policy through strategic partnerships with government and industry groups aligning with Michelin business objectives.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with members of federal entities and agencies.
  • Understand Michelin’s global ambitions in a “One Michelin” vision and be able to participate in the discussion to establish the Group’s positions.
  • Own the strategic responsibility for engagement and collaboration with key industry and business associations and seek leadership roles.
  • Testify before government committees in support of Michelin Group and/or industry.
  • Oversee development and implementation of a government relations strategy, advising on appropriate networks, organization, and approaches to support Michelin Group objectives.
What You’ll Bring
You will bring 5-10 years of government affairs experience and possess deep congressional and federal government contacts to facilitate Michelin’s engagement in the public policy arena. You also have a solid understanding of the fundamental US Congressional processes.
You have an advanced university degree (JD, MBA or Political Science /Government preferred).
You have successfully created and implemented comprehensive government affairs strategies to include federal lobbying, engagement with industry specific associations, engagement with non-governmental organizations, use of third-party advocacy for topical support and developing partnership with industry peers and external stakeholders.
You are comfortable and experienced in engaging with and briefing C-Suite executives.
You have the highest integrity and executive presence as you will represent Michelin to high-profile elected officials, executives, senior foreign government officials, senior trade organizations and external constituencies.
You are able to work collaboratively with Michelin business units, group companies and executive staff across the US and Canada.
