The Director of Development works with the Chief Executive Officer to plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress toward goals. The Director of Development supports the Chief Executive Officer in positioning the organization to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, United Way, government agencies and others. Identifies and creates opportunities to build public awareness of Club services, programs and activities. The Director of Development adapts or creates messages and vehicles for promoting upcoming events or programs to the public and members, including newsletters, public service announcements, flyers, etc. This position evaluates success of strategy, materials and media and modifies as necessary.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Leadership

1. Provide leadership and direction to the Chief Executive Officer in the effective operation of all development activities required to fund Club operations and deliver programs within the community.

2. Develop and implement marketing and public relations strategies designed to build appreciation and support of Club programs, services, and activities.

Strategic Planning

3. In collaboration with Chief Executive Officer develop and implement a strategic plan for single and multi-year resource development efforts:

· Researches and analyzes agency, corporate, individual and foundation donor base and recommends solicitation strategies.

· Prepares and presents for approval proposals for corporate and foundation support of the Club, using current cultivation and solicitation materials.

· Oversees planning of logistics for special events, including obtaining sponsorships and solicitation of gifts and preparing related printed materials and publications.

· Provides support for various fund raising projects/initiatives assigned by Chief Executive Officer, such as endowments, major gifts and planned giving.

· Contributes to operational strategic planning, identifying opportunities to promote Club services, programs and activities to specific constituents or the public at large.

· Identifies and evaluates opportunities to improve Club marketing and public relations activities.

· Designs and implements direct mail programs.

4. Ensure the evaluation of development activities and identify opportunities to improve results.

ResourceDevelopment

5. Contributes to attaining financial support by increasing membership and building Club’s base of support through marketing and public relations campaign.

6. Designs and promotes special events that focus on awareness on the Club’s activities, engage community support and generate revenue.

ResourceManagement

7. Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Club’s annual budget, controlling expenditures within budget and maintaining donor and financial records in accordance with standards.

8. Continuously develops knowledge of best practices of marketing Club programs, services and activities within the community.

PartnershipDevelopment

9. Develops strategic alliances with community leaders and local officials in collaboration with Chief Executive Officer.

10. Develops collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families, funders and community organizations in collaboration with Chief Executive Officer.

MarketingandPublicRelations

11. Increases visibility of Club development activities and maintains good public relations.

12. Participates in the development and coordinates implementation of all marketing and public relations activities to increase the visibility of the organization.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains oral and written contact with the Chief Executive Officer, staff peers, and volunteers for the purpose of exchange of information, to provide progress reports regarding activities and planned programs, and to coordinate events.

External: Maintains oral and written contact with other agencies, business leaders, community groups, boards of directors of such organizations, and the media for the purpose of exchanging information and ideas and for the purpose of fundraising.

Director of Development

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGEREQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • A minimum of three years’ work experience in non-profit agency operations, specifically in the fund-raising field, sales/marketing or equivalent experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of fund-raising techniques, and sources of funding for non- profit agencies and organizations.
  • Knowledge of: the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures and of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations, youth development services preferred.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate fund-raising operations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
  • Knowledge of accessing and managing donor data base.

  • Ability to get along with diverse personalities.
  • Physical requirements include: sight, hearing, sitting, standing, stooping and lifting a minimum of 25 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
