GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Learning & Development provides strategic direction and day to day management of the Company’s training program and system. Responsibilities include governance and continuous improvement of the LMS, identifying training needs, course development, organizational needs assessment, solution design, delivery, measurement and reinforcement. This position manages a team focused on developing sales, compliance, safety and leadership training and collateral in support of the store support center, retail stores and the sales support organization with an overall goal of enhancing the customer experience, driving sales, expanding leadership skills and improving individual, group and organizational effectiveness.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as strategic business partner to sales and corporate leadership teams to identify and prioritize learning needs and develop solutions.
  • Identify external vendors of learning solutions; negotiate contracts, establish service level agreements and manage vendors to meet business requirements.
  • Serve as super user of the company’s Learning Management System to ensure governance, administrative, technological and user experience capabilities are maximized through process improvement and system enhancements.
  • Work with leaders to identify training governance and audit needs and ensure reporting is provided timely.
  • Identify, prepare, and track key metrics to ensure compliance with safety and legal needs, and assess effectiveness of implemented solutions, including baseline and follow up measurements.
  • With team of Training & Development Specialists, conduct learning and development needs assessments. Areas of focus include sales, customer service, operations, leadership, onboarding and orientation.
  • Design and propose learning and development solutions to set and meet performance standards, including content, delivery methods, timeline, and required resources for implementation.
  • Deliver and facilitate learning and development solutions, using a variety of traditional and electronic methods, including classroom training, virtual classes, on-line training, blended learning, and social media technologies, in individual, small, and large group settings.
  • Plan, deliver, and facilitate follow up actions to reinforce learning and development actions via a variety of electronic or other methods.
  • Provide coaching to field and corporate leaders and act as a trusted, credible, internal consultant to enhance leadership effectiveness and support of organizational performance and development.
  • Research and recommend internal and external development options for high potential field and corporate managers; partner with field and corporate leadership to support development of leadership bench strength.
  • Help drive employee engagement in the company’s mission, values, priorities, and strategies through effective communications and programs.
  • Supports and helps lead change in the organization while fostering a culture that drives for results and equally focuses on product, service and execution.
  • Makes certain associates are appropriately trained to conduct business and behave in an ethical manner and in compliance with company policy as well as all applicable laws and regulations; manage the learning management system to effectively facilitate required training.
  • Fosters and ensures compliance with company policy and applicable laws and regulations relating to all facets of the business, including, but not limited to SOX, SEC, Lacey Act, FCPA, and C-TPAT, wage and hour, product safety, certifications and labelling, environmental, and social responsibility.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree, required; Master’s degree preferred in Education, Technology, Instructional Technology, Adult Education, Distance Learning, or a related field.
Related Experience, Qualifications and/or Certifications:
  • 8-10 years of experience in training management and skill development
  • 5+ years of experience working with a Learning Management System (LMS) on a SaaS basis, preferably with SumTotal
  • Store operations and/or retail management experience a plus
  • Track record of having worked as a key advisor to and been a participant in senior management on a variety of business issues.
  • Strong record of building strategic partnerships and relationships.
  • Change Management - Experience helping lead an organization through change is preferred, including direct experience with human resources initiatives and programs that build growth and profitability.
  • Experience in attracting and retaining high caliber talent and developing a high performing team.
Computer Skills / Special Equipment Knowledge:
  • Excellent computer skills, including Adobe Cloud Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premier, Audition), SCORM Course Authoring Software (Captivate (required), Lectora, Articulate Storyline).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office required
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Individuals in this position generally work in an office environment that involves the use of office equipment, such as computers, copiers, telephones, and other office machinery/equipment. Individuals may experience occasional exposure to a retail sale and/or warehouse environment involving material moving and heavy equipment (e.g. forklift) where there may be some exposure to moderate noise, outdoor elements (heat and cold) and airborne particles.
