Job description
Job Location: College Park, MD or USDA, Beltsville, MD. We are looking for hard workers who are dependable and have exemplary work ethics. The ideal candidates' motivation is centered on positive collaboration with research cooks, diet techs, dieticians, and principal investigators to build menus according to patients' dietary restrictions or allergies, prepare food accordingly, provide food preparation assistance, data entry, clean the facility's dining hall and kitchen areas, and other services to maintain operational efficiency. Work will be performed in a clinical lab at the University of Maryland, Department of Nutrition and Food Science. This is a temporary position (6 months with the possibility of extension). Background Investigation Required.

Dietary Lab Technician II
General Description:
- Assist research cooks, diet techs, dietitians and principle investigators daily with study activities.
- Assist with the supervision of study participants during meals ensuring that participants are consuming the proper diet and treatment to which they are assigned.
- Collects nutrient information and menu files, such as recipes, manufacturers' nutrient data, subject intake records, nutrition history, daily questionnaires, and other records generated by the specific research study.
- Assists in maintaining the current inventory of food items, paper supplies, cleaning agents, and office supplies.
- Assists with the development of specialized recipes and the use of various test products.
- Assist with cooking and preparing foods for daily menus and weekend meals according to specific dietary guidelines and research recipes.
- Operates electronic balances and other specialized kitchen equipment. Assists with the planning, packaging, and distributing of emergency meals and treatments for study volunteers.
- Assists with preparing, assembling, and distributing any special take-out requests approved by the Clinical Research Coordinator for study volunteers.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment along with their fellow staff members, including but not limited to: washing dishes, sanitizing work stations, sanitizing equipment, and sweeping and storing inventory in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Assists with data entry and information management as related to nutrition feeding studies.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree bachelor's Nutrition, Nutrition, or other related fields
- Must be able to lift 45 pounds
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Competent in using ESHA Food Processor nutrition analysis software
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications
- ServSafe certified or eligible for certification
