JOB DESCRIPTION

Manage the Dietary department in accordance with the federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. This position is a safety sensitive position as defined by applicable state law.

QUALIFICATIONS:
o Experience as a Dietary Manager is preferred.
o Experience in the various duties and governmental regulations necessary to manage the dietary department.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
o Possess the necessary education and skills to interview, assess and develop individualized plans to meet residents’ needs.
o Skilled at organizing various duties.
o Must be flexible and able to handle change easily and professionally.
o Must display a willingness to continue to study, learn and implement continuously changing state and federal regulations.
o Maintain a positive attitude and be a role model of professionalism and teamwork.
o Communicate with residents, families, physicians, discharge planners and staff in a professional and tactful manner.
o Must maintain regular attendance.
o Must meet all local health regulations.

o Must be able to read and write in a legible and understandable manner. Must be able to communicate clearly.
o Must be able to work closely and professionally with residents, their families, physicians, discharge planners, outside agencies and all nursing facility personnel.
o Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:

Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, pushing and pulling, fine hand coordination, ability to hear and respond to pages, ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions; ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel, vendors and consultants; ability to distinguish smells, tastes, and temperatures; and the ability to remain calm under stress.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Assuring resident safety.
o Supervise the Dietary Department.
o Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Dietary Department and its programs and activities.
o Participate in regular meetings such as stand up, weight loss, quality assurance and safety as directed by the Administrator.
o Develop, coordinate and participate in resident care plans. To ensure that information and care in the care plans is designed to promote individualized dietary preferences and needs.
o Ensure that dietary department operates within the regulations of state and federal guidelines including but not limited to OSHA guidelines including MSDS sheets.
o Supervise dietary employees, provide education and disciplinary action as necessary.
o Conduct in-services as necessary.
o Conduct scheduled performance evaluations for dietary personnel.

o Monitor the dietary staff for adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
o Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, audits and studies to assure control of equipment and supplies.
o Inspect food storage rooms for upkeep and supply control.
o Maintain a productive working relationship with other department supervisors and coordinate dietary services to assure that daily dietary services can be performed without interruption.
o Make daily rounds to assure that dietary personnel are performing required duties and to assure that appropriate dietary procedures are being rendered to meet the needs of the facility.
o These duties and responsibilities are not a comprehensive list, and additional tasks may be assigned from time to time. The scope of this position may change as necessitated by business demands.
