Development and Events Coordinator
Job description
CMCB is at an exciting juncture in our 113-year history, and we are eager to welcome a fourth full-time staff member to the advancement team. This role is an excellent early-career position for candidates with interest in the arts, education, and fundraising sectors who have good analytical skills and the ability to accomplish tasks independently. The Development and Events Coordinator will work closely with senior members of the department on a range of projects, spanning analysis, research, event planning, and donor relations. Our advancement department works very closely with our programs team to center the voices of young people, and this role would be no exception. While previous experience or interest in nonprofit fundraising is a plus, any candidate with attention to detail, good communication skills, strong critical thinking, and a willingness to learn could thrive in this role. Like all roles at CMCB, there is significant investment in professional development training, mentorship from senior staff, and opportunity for future promotion within the department.
Summary of Position
Status: Full-Time Salaried (40 hours/week), Exempt
Start Date: July 2023
Schedule: Hybrid, Monday-Friday, some weekday and weekend evenings
Reports to: Senior Director of Major & Institutional Giving (SDMIG)
Works Closely With: Chief Financial & Operating Officer (CFOO), Senior Director of Development & External Relations (SDDER), Marketing and Communications Manager, and the Programs Team
Responsibilities
Development (40%)
- Manage database administration
- Manage research and data analytics
- Support persuasive presentation of department data through visualizations, written copy, infographics, etc
- Oversee data collection and analysis that ensures CMCB's governing body meets and exceeds metrics around diversity, inclusion, and talent retention
- Support clerical elements of reconciliation and financial projections with the CFOO
- Coordinate seasonal annual fund mailings, including the winter appeal and end-of-fiscal-year appeal
- Process, track, and acknowledge incoming gifts and in-kind donations
Event Planning (40%)
- Support the SDDER in event planning and day-of event logistics, including an expectation of in person attendance at most/all advancement events
- Coordinate with external consultants, vendors, and event planners when relevant
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of invitation lists
- Serve as a primary contact for volunteers during special events
- Manage benefits associated with events
Funder Relations (20%)
- Conduct front-line interactions with donors and support interactions with institutional funders
- Coordinate and recruit volunteers
- Communicate with parent, Board & Corporation, and other external volunteers throughout the year as needed
- Manage associated logistics of volunteer relationships
Qualifications
Essential
- Strong background in research, data, and/or quantitative analysis, such as professional experience using data to make strategic decisions and for persuasive storytelling, or college-level coursework related to quantitative analysis in the sciences or humanities
- The ability to bridge quantitative skills with experience in youth development or the arts in order to identify, engage, and secure philanthropic support
- Must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S as CMCB is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time
- Must be able to comply with company-wide COVID-19 vaccination verification or regular twice-weekly testing requirement
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Experience and skills in working in an inclusive and culturally diverse environment
- Highly organized, detail oriented, and prioritizes tasks effectively while working independently
- Ability to work in a hybrid remote / in person team-based, collaborative work environment
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and Google Apps and working knowledge of Zoom
Preferred
- Experience in Constant Contact, design software like Canva or the Adobe Suite, and database software like Raiser's Edge, Bloomerang, or Airtable
- Experience in event planning, working with families, or public facing music/arts programs
- Experience working with or advocating for Boston's communities of color and/or disinvested neighborhoods
- Fluency in a second language, particularly Spanish and/or Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese), is highly desirable
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the person in this position must be able to to remain in a stationary position 50-75% of the time. They will need to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. At events, they will constantly move around the event space to communicate with vendors and attendees as well as assess event logistics.
