Position Summary:
Dean of the Division of Social Sciences, Columbia College (SC)
The Division of Social Sciences at Columbia College invites applications for division dean (tenure-track, rank open) to begin as soon as August 2023 with strong teaching focus in Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related field.
Columbia College is a liberal arts college with five academic divisions that is committed to creating a learning community that values diversity and inclusion. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration to teaching, leadership, research, and who can build collaborative relationships in the college and profession.
The Division of Social Sciences serves over 350 students, offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in the social/behavioral sciences, helping professions, and public safety/service. Programs are offered in day, evening, and online formats. Students are equipped for a variety of professions based on internship and research opportunities to maximize their professional preparation. The division’s strengths lie in supportive faculty and students with a commitment to social justice and sensitivity to the needs of underserved and marginalized populations.
The position is a full-time, tenure-track appointment that reports to the Provost. The Dean provides leadership to division faculty and oversees the divisions undergraduate and graduate programs. Responsibilities include serving as chair of the undergraduate Behavioral Science major program (to include advising); planning and administration of the division budget; oversight of assessment for undergraduate and graduate programs in the division; on-campus and online course planning; mentoring and orienting of adjunct instructors; and completing summer work (annual division report, faculty evaluations, and other responsibilities as needed).
Teaching load for the dean position is six credit hours for each of fall and spring semesters. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to design and deliver courses in a variety of formats, including online and hybrid modalities, and are expected to teach core courses and specialized courses in their discipline area. The candidate is expected to have flexibility in class scheduling to meet the needs of the college.

Qualifications
Candidates must have an earned doctorate, at least 5 years of experience as a full-time faculty member, and at least three years of administrative and/or operational experience in academic leadership roles. Candidates should demonstrate strengths in leadership, administration, and teaching. All required documents must be submitted for the application to be reviewed.
