Assistant Teacher

Education:

GED or Highschool Diplomia

Work Experience: This is great if you have but will not be a deciding factor of employment

Childcare, working in the school system

*Baby sitting dose not count*

New Hire Requirements:

  • Live Scan Fingerprint Background Check
  • Negative TB Test
  • Mandated Reporter Training
  • Safe Sleep & Shaken Baby Training
  • Health and Safety Refresher

Licensing Requirements:

  • 16 hrs of professional development each year
  • Health and Safety 1&2
  • Health and Safety Refresher
  • CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens every 2 yrs.
  • Keep and Update Daily sheets for all children present (30 months and under)
  • Help the Lead Teacher maintain accident reports, incident reports, medication forms, as well as other necessary paperwork for the student file (Check that forms are still in circulation or they need to be updated)
  • Maintain ratio child to caregiver ratio and group size of classroom

Classroom Responsibilities:

  • Help the Lead Teacher keep a running inventory of the child(s) diapers, clothing, diaper cream, lotion etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Keep and Update Daily sheets for all children present (30 months and under)
  • Oversee classroom environmentInspect toys regularly (Talk with Lead before you take toys out of the room or replace)

Ensure all toys and classroom equipment is clean and being properly sanitized
Provide opportunities for gross and fine motor though play
At closing setting the classroom up in a neat and clean presentation that is ready for the next day

  • Provides care and supervision of the childrenMaintain ratio child to caregiver ratio and group size of classroom

Meet all basic needs of the children
Meet all development, social-emotional and cognitive needs of the children
Interact in a positive manner with all the children
Know what activities the children are doing (coloring, playing with puzzles etc.) and where they are in the room
Know how many children you have in the classroom at all time
Count the children at every door way to make sure no child was left behind when leaving the classroom
Stay close to the children, this insures you are able to intervene and keep them from harm (sitting on the floor next to the kids where they are playing)
Provide supervision to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each child in the classroom
Help the Lead teacher teach healthy behaviors ( proper hand washing, daily outside play, proper nutrition, communication, manors, how to hold utensils, etc. )

Help the Lead teacher teach positive methods of discipline: (Follow the ABCDE’s)Problem solving
Self control
Cooperation
Discussing feelings
Conflict resolution
Manners
Help the Lead set clear rules and model that behavior to the children

Communicate with the children respectfullyNot using name calling the kids (the naughy one, the problem kid etc)
Using their names and getting down on their level to talk

  • Staff Requirements:Be on time - do not wait till the last minute to go to the classroom, if you need to use the restroom come in earlier and do so.

Be accountable for your actions
Be able to distinguish between right and wrong
Think and act rationally
Be dependable, reliable and flexible
Have knowledge (learn) of children's developmental needs at different ages
Attend staff meetings
Communicate professionally with parents
Collaborate and communicate with other staff in a positive manor
Communicate with the lead teacher/director first if you have any concerns, questions, ideas etc before talking to the parents about the subject matter or implementing
In emergency communicate concerns, questions to the Director if the lead teacher is unavailable and the situation needs IMMEDIATE attention.
Integrate christian practices into everyday routines and play time (praying before we eat, talking about God with the Kids etc.)

  • No belly shirts

No rips on butt or two high up on thighs

No bodycon or skin tight bodysuits
No chains / ropes that could tangle children up

(If in question of clothing chose message director before arriving on sight or bring extra clothing to change into)

Pay: $12.00 - $13.50 per hour
