Receiving only broad guidance, the Information Systems Supervisor II provides management, supervision, and guidance to the Data Center Operations and Telephony units of the Judicial Council Information Technology Office. This unit is responsible for day-to-day network infrastructure, data center operations, and telecommunications technology support for the Judicial Council, Courts of Appeal, Supreme Court, and in a limited capacity the 58 County Trial Courts. This position serves a subject matter expert role in the area of assignment, delegation, and technical project oversight for the implementation of new or replacement technologies for the branch. This position ensures that business operations comply with Judicial Council standards, practices, and procedures; develops and implements unit goals, defines clear objectives, and improves customer satisfaction levels as needed. The position also assists in the preparation of the annual IT branch budget and is responsible for reviewing, preparing procurement documents, and approving expenditures.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in the San Francisco or Sacramento office. However, hybrid schedules may be available from a California residence during the duration of the agency’s Hybrid Work Pilot Program through 2022.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operations of the data center operations and telephony units and processes with critical impact to the Judicial Council and the branch
- Develops and administers the annual budget (estimated $1.2m) for data center operations and telephony unit. Develops and administers the annual budget for Appellate and Supreme court infrastructure (estimated $660k BCP).
- Responsible for information technology service support functions for the organization.
- Serves as knowledge expert for the data center operations and telephony unit; represents unit or Information Technology in various technology initiatives
- Serve as JCIT technical liaison between Supreme, Appellate, and Trial courts
- Responsible for professional services staff resourcing for Branch IT engagements
Supervisory Duties:
- Recommends selection of staff.
- Trains staff and proposes internal and external training courses and workshops.
- Provides for career development and planning for staff.
- Approves time off requests.
- Reviews and approves time sheets.
- Evaluates employee performance and conducts performance reviews.
- Administers discipline as required.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend Data Center Operation unit meetings
- Attend Appellate court meetings
- Attend Judicial Council IT all staff meetings – quarterly
- Attend Judicial Council IT management meetings – bi-weekly
- Attend Judicial Council IT Integrated Project Plan meetings – bi-weekly
- Attend training to complete Judicial Council training requirements – bi-annually

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, management information systems or directly
related field, and seven (7) years of relevant information technology experience, which includes at
least one (1) year of supervisory experience. An additional four years of professional experience as
noted above may substitute for the bachelor’s degree. Or, additional directly related experience
and/or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
OR
Two (2) years in a senior analyst or other level (C43) class, or four (4) years in an analyst or other level (C42) class with the Judicial Council of California or two (2) years of experience performing the duties of a class comparable in the level of responsibility to that of an exempt-level senior analyst, or four (4) years as an exempt-level analyst, in a California Superior Court or California state-level government entity and a) completion of training courses on topics related to effective supervision within 6 months of promotion; or b) one year of previous supervisory experience.
