Field Crew Chief will be responsible for conducting and supervising fieldwork, completing site file forms and survey logs, and providing general administrative support as assigned under the supervision of the Senior Archaeologist/Project Manager/Manager/Principal Investigator. Routine fieldwork, including overnight travel, will be required.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducts and supervises fieldwork: be able to walk 6-8 miles a day, carry loads, excavate, record information, able to identify and document artifacts, features, and sites.
  • Review the data for QA/QC, and ensure all work is conducted and submitted in accordance with company standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure that appropriate preliminary research is conducted and organized prior to fieldwork, and that necessary equipment, staff, and other resources are ready for fieldwork.
  • Conducts lab work: sorting, cleaning, analysis, curation; maintains equipment and supplies; ability to prepare field or lab summary notes and supports report production
  • Assist with office-based tasks, including performing Class I literature reviews, research, site form, technical report preparation.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of GIS, its uses and applications.
  • Hold or qualify for a State of New Mexico Historic Preservation Division permit (be listed on the HPD directory of archaeologists).
  • Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or other related cultural resources discipline.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Meet BLM requirements for field supervisor.
  • Experience collecting field data utilizing modern mobile technology (tablets, Bluetooth GPS receivers, mobile software)
Other Qualifications Preferred:
  • Primary report authorship and experience providing quality control review of field documents.
  • Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or other related cultural resources discipline.
  • One year of experience with GIS and specifically with data sets relating to biological and cultural resources
