GENERAL PURPOSE


This position supports the District's water conservation programs. Assignments may include but are not limited to: Supporting operations of the District's demonstration gardens, including maintaining plantings and supporting educational programs. Supporting conservation incentive programs, including engaging with customers, collecting field data, and performing administrative tasks. Supporting educational outreach events.


BENEFITS AND HOURS

This position is classified as an unbenefited flexible position. Position requires at least 15 to 19 hours per week (more if desired). The majority of work hours are during the peak time of public use of the conservation projects. Hours will vary seasonally, and some evening and weekend work may be required.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision as delegated by the Conservation Manager.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs field visits to customer properties to document conditions and collect data. May include taking digital photos, assessing irrigation equipment, collecting landscape measurements, and engaging with customers to explain program requirements.
  • Provides administrative support to all district managers which may include assistance with district events, picking up and/or delivering products and materials, performing clerical duties and other activities as requested.
  • Performs basic landscape maintenance in an educational garden.
  • Participates in delivery of educational outreach programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent; AND

Some experience performing above mentioned duties; OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience to the above may also be approved.


Preference may be given to applicants pursuing a degree in resource management, environmental science, biology, horticulture, or other related fields.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Applicants must be personable, self-motivated, interested in water management, and willing to work outdoors. Basic math skills and the ability to use common computer software are required. The ability to use common hand and power tools for garden maintenance is required.


Special Qualifications:

  • Must maintain a valid Utah Driver’s License and insurability under the district’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to a criminal background check.

Employees are frequently required to drive to multiple work locations as needed.


Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to use oral and written communications skills; read documents or instructions; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret data or information; use math and mathematical reasoning; continuously learn and apply new information or skills.


Working Environment:

The employee must be able to safely lift weight or exert force as follows:

Regularly: 1 to 20 pounds

Frequently: 21 to 50 pounds

Employees will rarely, if ever, lift over 50 pounds without the assistance of equipment or another team member.
