The Role
Computer Specialist is part of the Application Production Control (APC) Team. We are a Hybrid team, located within the CTL Data Center in Omaha, Nebraska. This team supports Mainframe and Midrange Applications and Online Systems
The APC provides surveillance on systems, controls batch application operations, detects application and online outages, provides problem analysis, resolution, escalation, and notification to the Bridge and Application Owners.
The Main Responsibilities
- Utilize systems to monitor workflow and load the work to qualified technicians.
- Evaluate and reassign work to available technicians as needed.
- Work to monitor and regulate work volumes.
- Communicate with business units to resolve computer job issues.
- Ensure that tickets and bill runs are processed accurately.
- Acquires skills through a combination of formal training and considerable on-the-job experience.
- Manipulates the systems and batch jobs in real time to correct errors and resolve problems, initiate, organize and/or participate on a SWAT call.
- Provides input on system fixes, root cause analysis and solutions, documentation, and quality initiatives as a member of various teams. Need knowledge of Service Now Ticketing tool.
- Keeps passwords secure and updated on all systems and technologies.
- Execute and analyze change reports/Global Change Request (GCRs) for daily and weekend system changes. Notify appropriate personnel of conflicts or problems.
What We Look For in a Candidate
- High School, GED or equivalent education and relevant experience
- Employees must be computer literate with three years of experience in an Information Technology working environment.
- Have a working knowledge of Job Control Language (JCL), know how to problem solve, make solid decisions based on internal processes.
- Must be able to retain information, function under stress, share information, demonstrate initiative and take ownership of a problem, have strong leadership qualities.
- Ability to work any shift in a 7 X 24 X 365 environment (weekends and holidays included). Overtime is required and employees must be willing to work overtime.
- This is a high client contact environment. The employee must have or develop strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills (interact with teams).
- Computer Specialists must be able to demonstrate proficiency in multi-tasking, handling multiple problems by various communication modes.
- Experience with the following tools and systems:
- Main Frame Environment (minimum two years)
- MVS/TSO, CTM, MainView
- Administrative Skills
- Microsoft Office Tools
