    POSITION TITLE:Computer Learning Associate (CLA)

    DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Havencroft Elementary School
    STATUS: Classified – Nonexempt
    HOURS OF WORK: 5.75 daily hours/ 28.75 weekly/Number of work-days dependent upon yearly calendars
    STARTING SALARY: $15.50 hourly

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 48 hours of college credit or the ability to pass the Title 1 assesment test

    POSITION SUMMARY: The job of Computer Learning Associate(CLA) was established for the purpose/s of instructing students in the technology curriculum with specific responsibility for supervising students within the computer lab and other assigned areas; providing basic troubleshooting and maintenance of the computer labs and inventory; maintaining and updating the school’s website; and serving as resource to staff by providing support and guidance based on their technology knowledge and experience. The CLA may be assigned to student supervision duties including but not limited to lunchroom supervision and added support for certified staff members during recess duty. Additionally, CLAs may be required to support the building office as needed. The position reports to the building administrator.

    PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assists school administrator for the purpose of supporting them in the overall leadership of site operations.
    • ?Attends training and/or workshops (e.g. CLA monthly meetings, etc.) for the purpose of increasing skills in special area of the technology curriculum.
    • Confers with other grade level or special area instructional staff as may be appropriate regarding (e.g. software applications installed throughout the building, updates to the school website, etc.) for the purpose of providing guidance, mentoring and/or computer support.
    • Coordinates students, teachers and technical support personnel for the purpose of maintaining computer lab operations and ensuring compliance with District policies and procedures.
    • Identifies program needs for the purpose of providing recommendations of expenditures for activities, equipment, supplies, etc. that will enhance the assigned program.
    • Instructs students and teachers for the purpose of complementing classroom instruction with a variety of software applications and the use of computer technology.
    • Maintains computer hardware and software applications (e.g. troubleshooting technical problems with computers, printers and other technology within the building, replacing ink cartridges, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability and proper working conditions of equipment and lab areas.
    • Prepares a variety of reports and documentation (e.g. lesson plan materials, HELP Desk Tickets, checklists, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information and/or ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
    • Provides training and/or support to teachers and new faculty for the purpose of orienting new faculty and responding to software questions.
    • Responds to inquiries of other school personnel for the purpose of providing support with information, assistance and/or direction related to the grade level or special area activities.
    • Serves as a resource to staff, students and parents for the purpose of providing support and guidance as requested based on their knowledge and experience.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    • May be assigned to lunchroom supervision, added support for certified staff members during recess duty and other student supervision duties as needed.
    • May be assigned to support the building office staff as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Job related experience is desired.
    • ?Requires classroom management skills
    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.? Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adapting to changing work priorities; applying pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; coordinating activities with other schools, District and/or agencies; facilitating department goals; organizing and communicating information and concepts; and integrating technology into curriculum.
    KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.? Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: knowledge of technology curriculum, instruction,?pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; public relations protocols; relevant professional standards and practices; and troubleshooting of hardware and software.
    ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.? Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans.?? Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate.? Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with persons of varied educational and cultural backgrounds; meeting deadlines and schedules; providing leadership, direction, and team building; providing opportunities for the exchange of ideas; and setting priorities.
    Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget.? Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the organization’s services.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.? Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.?
