The City of Laramie is accepting applications for a CSO/Records Specialist. This position will perform a variety of specialized record keeping and clerical duties in support of the Law Enforcement/ Fire/EMS Divisions. Applicants will transcribe and prepare sensitive reports dealing with highly emotional and often traumatic events.
The ideal candidate will be honest, accurate, and organized. They will maintain excellent communication skills and have a personable demeanor while responding discreetly to high-pressure situations. A stable work history will demonstrate their efficient use of technology and proven team ethics.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transcribe and classify police reports from digital recordings.
Analyze and enter data into the department"s records management system.
Maintain confidential criminal records.
Respond to requests from the public and other law enforcement/governmental agencies; access databases, pull files, redact information, collect fees, and log requests.
Perform various routine clerical duties.
Assist the evidence technician as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS: (A combination of the following experience and training, or the equivalent of, would be qualifying):
High School diploma or GED.
One (1) year of clerical experience to include word processing or data entry skills.
MINIMUM TYPING OF 45 WORDS PER MINUTE. Qualified candidates will be required to take a supervised typing test. The test will be scheduled prior to the interview.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment required to perform office functions in an efficient manner.
Proficiency in English, spelling, and punctuation, as required to produce and proofread written documents.
Efficiency in organizing, prioritizing, and performing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
Knowledge and experience interacting with the public.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Successful applicants must submit to a comprehensive background investigation including local, state and federal criminal history check; sex offender registry; and credit check and driver license check. Applicants who are offered appointments will also be required to pass a medical evaluation, psychological evaluation and pre-employment substance abuse testing.
