United Way of Greater Chattanooga is searching for a Community Engagement Specialist. This position is full-time and works with the Community & Corporate Engagement Team. This position reports to the Director of Community Engagement.

Salary for this position is $45,000 - $50,000.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position will work in collaboration with all departments at United Way of Greater Chattanooga, as well as a variety of community partners to engage individuals and corporations in meaningful volunteer experiences that advance the work of United Way or promote community volunteerism while also tracking, managing, and leveraging data for volunteer recruitment, communication, and project development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific Duties:

  • Volunteer Responsibilities
    • Project manage all volunteer activities ranging in scale from small group projects to large-scale community days of service including coordinating with partners and vendors, recruiting volunteers, flawless execution day of event, and post-event analysis and reporting.
    • Provide timely and customer-friendly consultation to individuals and corporations seeking information about volunteer opportunities and volunteer program development.
    • Collect and maintain accurate and updated data of volunteer opportunities, referrals and placements.
    • Maintain ihelpchattanooga.org, the online database of volunteer opportunities including training agencies on usage, adding opportunities, updating information, promoting the platform, providing customer service and reporting on usage.
    • Assist with annual Day of Caring event.
    • Act as one of the volunteerisms point of contact for corporate and agency contacts.
  • Engagement Groups
    • Recruit new members and build strong relationships with existing members of each group through thoughtful year-round engagement, moving them through the (i)GAVE model (G=Generosity, A-Advocacy, V –Volunteer, E-Engagement) to create dedicated volunteers, advocates, and generous donors to United Way of Greater Chattanooga, the result of which is a positive impact in our community.
  • Actively seek out best practices and continuously bring new and impactful ideas to each group’s leadership volunteers.
  • Provide constant communication with each group’s executive committee of volunteers to ensure full knowledge of community needs and direction of United Way of Greater Chattanooga.
  • Continuously track, evaluate, and seek to improve volunteer engagement, impact work, resources, and capacity.
  • Plan and execute events in conjunction with volunteers and United Way’s Corporate and Community Engagement team.
  • Develop a volunteer structure and experiences that engage a diverse set of dedicated volunteers who fully represent our greater Chattanooga community.

JOB EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and interests, including volunteer clients, staff, sponsors, donors, and external stakeholders.
  • An innate willingness to push process boundaries to break through and find innovative ways of working.
  • A variety of work experience that could include training, resource development, public relations and volunteer management.
  • Self-starter with solid organization and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing complex tasks and projects in a timely manner.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office programs. Experience with browser-based software and social media management is a plus.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar work experience.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position, and general hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Occasional irregular hours and weekend work may be required.
