AVA designs, engineers and manufactures industry-leading full volumetric modular units for the multi-family apartment and hospitality industries in the Upper-Midwest in a 180,000 ft2 state of the art facility in Albertville, Minnesota.
Job Description:
The Commodity Manager is responsible to develop, implement and maintain a commodity inventory strategy that supports AVA’s business. This individual evaluates market conditions to help guide and dictate our procurement strategy to maintain inventory levels and control costs. Role is central in developing direct relationships and agreements with key suppliers that we can leverage across the organization. Role is also responsible for the execution of orders in alignment with our ERP and Sister Company needs.
Responsibilities:
- Represent AVA in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers. Work to take as much of our business direct as possible. Define plans and report on progress
- Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability to determine approach on AVA projects. Devise ways and means to maximize commodity buying efficiency and minimize risks
- Develop cost reduction strategies and savings plans. Develop plan and report out monthly
- Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying, selling, and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies
- Leverage Global Shop ERP system around buy recommendations. Place PO’s accurately and timely to recommendationsLook to consolidate spend where it makes sense
Challenge things that do not look accurate or aligned with expectations
Create new parts and load into the system in alignment with Engineering and Operations
Develop processes to order long lead items in advance of system requirements
- Resolve defective materials claims quickly and accurately
- Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products, or substitute materials
- Working within the management team to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned orders and report any back ordered or missing products
- Assess vendor operations and enforce compliance with quality standards
- Measure supply chain performance and report out regularly
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, economics, or a similar field
- At least five years experience in supply chain or commodity management with 2 years or more in a supervisor position
- Solid knowledge of financial markets that influence commodity prices (ie Lumber, Gypsum, copper)
- 5+ years of construction related purchasing experience highly desired
- Good negotiation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with vendors and suppliers
- Advanced analytical skill
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work well cross functionally
- An understanding of Global Shop ERP platform highly desired
- Good attention to detail to ensure all purchase orders are accurate
- Entrepreneurial mindset; willing to support the business where necessary
